Braving The Storms

EL RENO HIGH SCHOOL • Oklahoma

Project Information

El Reno High School’s project looks to determine the best location of one or more community wide storm shelters in the city of El Reno, Oklahoma. El Reno was hit by a (recently downgraded) F3 tornado in May of this year. Community wide storm shelters could help those in the community that do not have access to their own storm shelter in their home. By mining climatic data from the National Weather Service and Oklahoma Climatological Survey, the students will be able to recommend ideal locations for storm shelters to be located throughout the community.

School Information

Located in central Oklahoma just 25 miles west of Oklahoma City along I-40 at the intersection of Route 66 and the historical Chisholm Trail. El Reno High School was originally built in 1911, serving approximately 800 students.
