How Do I Change Text Input Modes On My SGH-I617?
The SGH-I617 handset is equipped with a 37 key Qwerty keypad to support quick and easy text input. You can enter text as you would when using a PC keyboard.
The Qwerty keypad keys are labeled with alphabet on the lower half and numbers and symbols on the upper half. Simply press the key corresponding to the character you want to enter. To switch between using the upper case characters (including numbers) and lower case characters, press the Caps/Shift key. The cursor can be moved using the Navigation keys.
In addition, you can use the following function keys:
Backspace key, to delete characters
Caps/Shift key, to change case or switch to Capital Lock mode
Enter key, to start a new line
Symbol/Space key, Press to insert a space or Press & Hold to enter symbols
Function key, to switch text input modes
Note: The SGH-I617 also supports, if enabled, the T9 predictive text mode.
To enable or disable the T9 predictive text mode follow the steps below:
Note: The T9 mode allows you to enter words with only one keystroke per letter. Each key on the keypad has more than one letter; for example, pressing the 5 key can enter J, K, or L. The T9 mode automatically compares the series of keystrokes you make with an internal linguistic dictionary to determine the most likely word, thus requiring far fewer keystrokes than the traditional Alphabet mode.
Tip: If any other words share anything close to the same numeric sequence, T9 Mode provides the most commonly used word. Any other similar words that my share the same numeric sequence are displayed on the LCD as well. if any are available.
