How do I start my Samsung Galaxy S™ 4G in Safe Mode?

You can boot up your phone in Safe Mode if you wish to troubleshoot whether or not third-party applications are causing problems with the device. Safe mode will load only basic system software.

Turn On Safe Mode
  1. Make sure your device is turned off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key to boot up your device.
  3. During the start-up animations, touch and hold the Menu  key until the Lock screen displays.

Tip: This may take some practice. The trick is to ensure that the Menu key is pressed during a key moment in the boot-up process. If the Menu key lights up under your thumb before the Lock screen is displayed, quickly release and re-press and hold until boot-up is complete.

Safe mode is displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. To boot your device into normal mode again, turn your device off and then power it back on normally.
