What is Blocking Mode and how do I use it on my Samsung Galaxy S II?

Blocking mode lets you disable incoming calls (except for those on the allowed list), notifications, and alarms.

Blocking Mode

Blocking mode lets you disable incoming calls (except for those on the allowed list), notifications, and alarms. To set your device to use the Blocking mode feature, from the Home screen, touch Menu > Settings > Blocking mode. Touch the slider off  to turn Blocking mode on. Place a check mark next to the features you would like to disable. When the feature is on, a green check mark will appear. Choose from Disable incoming calls, Disable notifications, and Disable alarm and timer.

Set the time you would like the Blocking mode to be active or select Always to keep it on constantly. You can receive notifications from selected contacts by selecting Allowed contacts. Touch Custom to add specific contacts to the allowed contacts list.
