What do I do if Kies 2.6 is Not Seeing my Device?

Kies does not support all Samsung devices. If you are having problems connecting to Kies with your device, check your device's support page to see if Kies supports it. If you have used Kies with your device before, or you have confirmed your device is supported by Kies, below are some steps you can take to establish a connection with Kies on your computer.

    Kies 2.6 is only available for use on a Windows platform. Kies 3 is availble for both PC and Mac. Mac users should download Kies 3 for Mac.    LEARN MORE

  • Troubleshooting Kies

    Try these steps before using the Kies connection troubleshooter.

    • Disconnect the device and data cable from your computer, then reconnect.
    • Try connecting the USB cable to a different port on your computer.
    • If you are connecting the USB cable to a USB hub, try connecting the cable directly to your computer.
    • If you are connecting the USB cable to a docking station, try connecting the cable directly to your computer.
    • Verify you are running the latest version of Kies by clicking Help > Check for updates.
    • Close Kies and reopen the application.
    • Reboot your computer and your device.

    If you are still having trouble connecting to Kies, run the connection troubleshooting function:

    Note: This function is available only in Kies for Windows®. If you are using a Mac®, click Tools > Install driver to install the necessary drivers for your Samsung device.

    1. Open Kies and click Tools > Troubleshoot connection error.
    2. Click Start.



    3. When the troubleshooter attempts to reinstall the driver, click Yes on any installation warning messages.

    4. After the troubleshooter is finished, click Complete, and reconnect your device.

  • Reinstall on Windows

    It may be necessary to update Kies or reinstall the application. We recommend you completely uninstall the application and reinstall the latest version from the web.

    Uninstall Kies

    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device before continuing.
    2. Go to www.samsung.com/kies.
    3. Click the DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS button, and then click the DOWNLOAD KIES button.
    4. Click Run.
    5. Click Remove when prompted with Kies Reinstall or Remove.
    6. Click the checkbox next to Delete temporary save file, and click Yes.
    7. The application will then be removed from the computer.

    Install Kies

    1. Go to www.samsung.com/kies.
    2. Click the DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS button, and then click the DOWNLOAD KIES button.
    3. Depending on your browser and browser settings, you may be asked where you want to save the file. Select the location and click Save.
    4. Opening the file for installation will differ between different browsers. Follow the process for opening a downloaded file from your browser, or open Windows Explorer, browse to the location you saved the file to, and double-click KiesSetup.exe.
    5. Respond to any security warnings about installing software.
    6. You can change the installation folder by clicking Change. Review the terms of the license agreement, and mark the checkbox next to I accept the terms of the license agreement. Click Next.
    7. Select the additional components you want to install. We recommend that you install the Unified Driver Installer. Video Conversion Codec(MyFreeCodec) is an application that lets you play a wider range of video formats. When you are ready, click Next.
      Important! When you access certain features, like video playback, you may be asked to install a codec if you do not install one at this time.
    8. Click Finish when the installation is complete.
    9. Connect the USB cable to the device. Your computer will then locate the newly installed drivers. This process may take a few minutes.
    10. Once the drivers have been installed, open Kies.
  • Reinstall on Mac

    It may be necessary to update Kies or reinstall the application. We recommend you completely uninstall the application and reinstall the latest version from the web.

    1. Open the Samsung Kies website.
    2. Click the DOWNLOAD FOR MAC OS® button, and then click the DOWNLOAD KIES button.
    3. Opening the file for installation will differ between browsers. Follow the process for opening a downloaded file from your browser, or open Finder, navigate to the location you saved the file to, and double-click KiesMac_3.0_Setup.dmg.
    4. Double-click Uninstall > Yes > Complete.
      Note: If you are using Mountain Lion OS X 10.8, you will need to control-click or right-click the icon for Uninstall, and then click Open. Click Open again to grant access.
    5. Double-click KiesMac.pkg when the new Finder window opens. If you close the window, go to Finder and click File > New Finder window > kiesMac (under DEVICES on the left side of the window).
    6. Follow the on-screen prompts to begin the installation.
    7. To complete the installation, your Mac will need to be restarted. Please save your work and close all running applications before you click Restart.
    8. After the computer is restarted, connect your device to a different USB port on your computer using the USB cable.
    9. Open Kies on the computer.
