8K TV - How to use the Ambient Mode

Television sets typically serve as the central focal point in a living room, and we believe they should also function as a captivating design element. Thanks to Ambient Mode on compatible Samsung TVs and monitors, your TV can exude beauty even when it's not in use. Ambient Mode enhances your living space by showcasing decorations, weather updates, artwork, popular images, and personalized stories aligned with your interests.

Enjoying some ambiance on your TV is incredibly simple. You have the option to showcase decorations, weather updates, news, pictures, and artwork. You can even craft a custom background theme by capturing an image of your wall and using it as your TV's backdrop, seamlessly integrating it with your surroundings.

 

To access Ambient Mode:

  1. Activate Ambient Mode: Press the dedicated Ambient button on your Samsung Smart Remote, or alternatively, press the Home button and navigate to the Ambient icon located in the Home menu bar.

  2. Explore Categories: After selecting a category at the bottom of the screen, you'll see a preview of the available features and content.

  3. Get more details: To access more in-depth information, simply highlight your selection and press the Up directional button.

  4. Return to TV Mode: When you're done, press the Home button to return to regular TV mode.

Note: The presence of the Ambient button is limited to specific remotes. When the TV is powered off, pressing the Ambient button will turn the TV on in Ambient Mode.

Once you're in ambient mode, take a moment to appreciate the scenic view. Here's how to customize your experience:

To get detailed information, use the Up button on your remote to access in-depth information about the on-screen content. But the customization options don't stop there; you can tailor the on-screen content to make it truly one-of-a-kind.

Press the down directional button, where you can adjust the following settings:

  • Color and Theme: Choose a color and theme for the on-screen content.

  • Backgrounds: Alter the background color in Ambient Mode.

  • Shadow Effects: Add shadow effects for a sense of depth in images.

  • Brightness: Adjust the brightness level.

  • BG Saturation: Modify the color saturation of the background.

  • BG Color Tone: Fine-tune the color tone of the background.

  • BG R-Gain/BG G-Gain/BG B-Gain: Adjust the red, green, and blue contrast of the background.

  • Routine: Create your own routines using the SmartThings app, or choose from preset themes.

  • Special Edition: Explore a selection of artwork and interior designs to personalize your display.

  • Mood: Find various options to set the perfect ambiance for your home.

  • Relaxation: Immerse yourself in soothing, nature-inspired scenes for relaxation.

  • Décor: Enjoy beautifully designed content on your TV.

  • Info: Stay updated with real-time weather, temperature, time, and the latest news. (Note: Availability may vary by location.)

  • Artwork: Search for renowned artwork and photography to use as your background.

  • Background Theme: Select from themes curated by Samsung.

One of the standout features of Ambient Mode is its automatic adjustment of brightness to harmonize with the room's lighting conditions. However, should you prefer a softer ambiance for relaxation or wish to establish a timer for automatic deactivation of Ambient Mode, you can easily achieve this by configuring the settings.

To access these settings, simply press the Ambient button to enter Ambient Mode and then select Settings.

 

Within the settings menu, you have the option to customize a range of options, including:

  • Auto Brightness: Allows you to alter the Auto Brightness setting for Ambient Mode.

  • Ambient Off Timer: Permits you to specify the time for the automatic deactivation of the Ambient Mode screen. If there is no input from the remote control within the designated time frame, the screen will power off. To reactivate the screen in Ambient Mode, press the Ambient button on the remote.

  • Reset All Photos: Provides the ability to reset the photos imported from your mobile device.

Note:

  • On Samsung 2020 TVs, the Ambient Off Timer is now referred to as Sleep After.
  • You can also make adjustments to your ambient mode settings using the SmartThings app, which is accessible on Android and iOS devices.

  1. After successfully connecting your TV to SmartThings, launch the SmartThings app and power on your TV.

  2. Within the SmartThings app, choose the specific TV you'd like to enhance with your personal photos.

  3. Access the Ambient Mode feature.

  4. Next, select My Album. Here, you'll find a range of options for customizing how your images are displayed. You can apply a dynamic filter, create a daily or monthly calendar, and more! You also have the flexibility to tailor these options to your preferences by selecting Edit.

  5. Once you've settled on your preferred layout, click on Select Photos.

  6. You can choose up to 50 images to be displayed on your TV. If you select more than one, the images will be presented in a random slideshow format. When you're done, press View on TV. Your chosen images will now be showcased on your TV screen!
