How Much Space Should There Be Behind A DLP TV?

Last Update Date : Apr 20. 2018

Without adequate ventilation, DLP TVs can overheat. If you put your DLP TV into an open cabinet or into an open room near a wall, leave at least three to four inches between the back of the TV and the rear of the cabinet or the wall.

If you are putting your DLP TV into a closed cabinet, a custom cabinet, or recessed into a wall, leave at least three or four inches between the back of the cabinet or the back wall and the TV, and - this is important - make sure that the cabinet or recess has a supply of fresh air. For a cabinet, a pair of vent holes at least two or three inches in diameter that open into the room or some other area with an unrestricted supply of fresh air will probably be sufficient. For a wall recess, vent holes would be a good idea. If vent holes are not practical, the recess should be large enough so that there is at least three inches of open space above and to the left and right of the TV to allow hot air to flow out and cooler air to flow in.
