My DVD Player Won't Play Movies On My LCD TV.

Last Update Date : Apr 20. 2018

If your DVD player won't play movies on your LCD TV, or the movies are discolored or distorted, read the discussion below.

Kinds of Video Jacks

Samsung LCD TVs have four kinds of video jacks

  • HDMI
  • Component
  • S-Video
  • Composite or Video

Most DVD players can connect to Component, S-Video, and Composite video jacks. Some can connect to HDMI. Instructions for connecting a DVD player using each of the four kinds of video jacks and then playing a movie are below.

Note: Using the Component jacks is the recommended method of connecting your Samsung LCD TV to a DVD player.

Connecting with the HDMI Jacks

To connect using HDMI jacks, all you need to do is connect the HDMI output jack on the DVD player to the HDMI input jack on the TV. But be aware: If you connect using HDMI, your DVD player must be turned on for the TV to recognize it. That is, you must turn your DVD player on before you switch the Source on your TV to HDMI.

Connecting with the Component Jacks

To connect your Samsung LCD TV to your DVD player using the Component Video jacks and then play movies, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the three Component video out jacks (Pr, Pb, and Y) on your DVD player to the three corresponding Component video in jacks on your TV. You can use standard RCA connectors to connect the Component jacks.

Note: The easiest way to make sure you have connected the Component jacks correctly is to match the color codes on the Component video out jacks on your DVD player to the color codes on the Component video in jacks on your TV.  Connect the green Component video out jack on your DVD player to the green Component video in jack on your TV and so on.

  1. Connect the two audio out jacks on your DVD player to the two Component Audio input jacks on your TV.
  2. On your DVD player, select either Component (I-Scan) or Component (P-Scan) as video output.

Note: Your DVD player may or may not let you select the video output. Also, the output may be called 480i or 480 interlaced which corresponds to I-Scan, or 480p or 480 progressive which corresponds to P-Scan. It also may be called 525i or 525 interlaced which corresponds to I-Scan, or 525p or 525 progressive which corresponds to P-Scan. See your DVD player user manual for information and instructions on selecting a video output.

  1. When you play your DVD player, press the Source button on your TV remote to select Component.

Note: If your LCD TV has more than one set of Component inputs, select the set to which you attached the DVD player, Component 1 or Component 2.

Connecting with the S-Video Jack

To connect your Samsung LCD TV to your DVD player using the S-Video jack and then play movies, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the S-Video out jack on your DVD player to the S-Video in jack on your LCD TV.
  2. Connect the two Audio out jacks on your DVD player to the two Audio in jacks on your TV.
  3. On your DVD player, select S-Video as your video output. See your DVD player's user manual for instructions on selecting a video output.
  4. When you play your DVD player, press the Source button on your TV remote to select S-Video.

Connecting with the Composite or Video Jack

To connect your Samsung LCD TV to your DVD player using the Composite or Video jack and then play movies, follow these steps

  1. Connect the Composite or Video out jack on your DVD player to the Composite or Video in jack on your LCD TV.
  2. Connect the two Audio out jacks on your DVD player to the two Audio input jacks on your TV.
  3. On your DVD player, select Composite, Video, 480i, or 525i as your video output. See your DVD player's user manual for instructions on selecting a video output.
  4. When you play your DVD player, press the Source button on your TV remote to select Video or Composite.
