How do I get the most out of my Display?

How to get the most out of your Display

For decades, Samsung has been continuously pushing the boundaries with new innovative designs and technology for our Mobile Products and are always looking for ways to improve screen quality and robustness, however if your mobile product has not been cared for, over time you may experience degradation of image quality from the display.

Prolonged use of stationary pixels, such as games, text, images or graphics can create a permanent, ghost-like image of a static image on the display. If your device has been continuously emitting light from these types of static objects, screen burn may take effect with the image quality noticeably degrading.

Screen burn is not a common occurrence, however there are certain scenarios that may increase the likelihood of this occurring to your device;

For example, playing a game on your mobile phone (whilst charging, in direct sunlight, on a fairly hot day), the static text within the mobile game, such as "Score" or "Level", may have an immediate effect of screen burn and have ghost-like images highly visible within as little as a few weeks.

Recommendations on how to take care of your display

The Android OS' for our Samsung mobile devices have been optimised so that all our customers can personally configure the display settings to reduce any degradation of quality displayed from your screen. See the below for our recommendations on usage of your mobile device:

Please Note: The shorter the amount of time your display is turned on, the longer the lifespan of your screen. When used in the right conditions and environment, the difference will be highly noticeable as to the same type of device which has gone through continuous extended long-term use.

  • Shorten the Screen timeout
  • Enable Auto brightness
  • Ensure your device is up-to-date
  • Set a lower Screen timeout period. This setting turns the display off when your device is inactive after a period of time. Only the screen will be turned off.
  • Enable Auto brightness. Enabling this feature automatically adjusts the brightness of your display according to the amount of light. Enabling this also helps save power, extending the current battery life.
  • It is recommended not to play high resolution content (such as games, videos, etc.) for a long period of time whilst your mobile device is on charge.
  • Ensure your device is up-to-date with the latest Android OS Software. Click here to learn how to perform a Software Update for your Mobile device.
