Why does the video quality fluctuate when streaming videos online?

Last modified : Aug 27. 2019

The picture can blink or change in quality as Samsung Blu-ray players and Home Theater Systems use Adaptive Streaming, a process that adjusts the quality of video based on changing network conditions.

As an example, if you connect to your internet service provider (ISP) at 8Mbps, that does not mean you'll always have 8Mbps because bandwidth can vary. An 8Mbps connection might increase or decrease based on network conditions that time, which causes video to fluctuate as well.

Adaptive Streaming adjusts the video (bit rate) to adapt to network conditions as they change. These changes in video quality can create a momentary blank signal or blink.

Please note: If you experience severe changes to the video quality, we recommend contacting your ISP or router provider to troubleshoot your network speed.

What is BD Wise for HDTV and Blu-ray DVD?

BD Wise is a feature that improves picture quality by adjusting settings such as:

  • Adjusting Contrast and Colour Balance.
  • Finding the best resolution settings for viewing a DVD or Blu-ray disc. Note: BD Wise cannot increase the resolution, it uses the best available settings.

BD Wise is available on selected High definition TVs (HDTV) and Blu-ray players. In order for it to work, both devices must be equipped with BD Wise. It cannot be used on non-BD Wise equipped HDTVs or Blu-ray players. If you want BD wise connectivity, always make sure to check the product description before making a purchase.

BD Wise may not work with the following:

  • DVDs with unusual encoding (These can result in incorrect resolution or brightness)
  • Discs burned from a PC or laptop (These may have a problem with up-scaling)
