How to address condensation or sweating in your Samsung refrigerator
Condensation, dew, or water droplets may appear on the refrigerator’s door surface, side panels, inner walls, shelves, or chiller tray during periods of high humidity or rainy seasons. This is a natural physical reaction and does not indicate a product defect. In most cases, moisture forms when warm, humid air contacts the cold surfaces of the refrigerator. Follow the guidance below to understand the cause and minimize the occurrence.
Symptoms: Signs of moisture, condensation or sweating
You may observe one or more of the following signs, especially during rainy or humid conditions:
- Water droplets on the refrigerator’s side body, door surface, or gasket.
- Dew or condensation on inner walls, shelves, chiller tray, or compartments.
- Moisture around food containers, especially when items are stored uncovered.
- Sweating on the outer cabinet when placed near fans, coolers, or direct airflow.
- Intermittent water beads appearing after frequent door openings.
Note: These symptoms are normal in humid environments and do not indicate a product defect unless they are accompanied by performance issues.
Troubleshoot: Condensation or sweating on the outer refrigerator cabinet
Condensation occurs when warm, moisture-laden air comes into contact with a cold surface. The temperature difference causes water vapor in the air to convert into liquid droplets. This is commonly seen during the monsoon season, when the humidity level exceeds 80%.
How to troubleshoot:
- Avoid installing the refrigerator directly under a fan or in front of a cooler where humid airflow continuously hits the cabinet.
- If external condensation persists, consider relocating the refrigerator to a less humid area.
- Wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove water droplets as needed.
Note: Surface moisture on the outer cabinet is not a defect and will not damage the unit when properly maintained.
Troubleshoot: Condensation or moisture inside the refrigerator compartment
Water droplets may appear on shelves, the chiller tray, inner walls, or door cover. This is typically caused by humid air entering the compartment.
How to troubleshoot:
- Avoid frequent or prolonged door opening. Minimize the time the door remains open to reduce warm air intake.
- Ensure all food items are fully covered or stored in sealed containers.
- Store vegetables and fruits in net or breathable bags. Storing them in plastic bags may cause moisture formation.
- Do not place hot food or hot milk directly into the refrigerator. Allow items to reach room temperature before storage.
- Check that the refrigerator is not overloaded, as blocked airflow can contribute to localized condensation.
- Inspect the door seal to ensure it is intact and airtight. A damaged or loose gasket may allow warm air to enter.
Note: Water deposition on the door cover or chiller tray due to frequent door opening or a humid environment is considered normal and can be cleaned with a dry cloth.
Most condensation issues are normal and related to weather or usage conditions. However, contact a Samsung service center if excessive water accumulation persists after following the above measures.
