Samsung Recovery Solution III


Samsung Recovery Solution III is a software tool that helps you backup and restore information on your PC.

With Samsung Recovery Solution III you can:

     • Backup and restore personal data files.

     • Perform a complete backup of the entire PC, including the operating system, programs, settings, and data files.

     • Restore your PC to an earlier time from a previously created backup.

To Launch Samsung Recovery Solution III


There are 2 ways to launch Samsung Recovery Solution III:

     • Click Start > All Programs > Samsung > Samsung Recovery Solution III > Samsung Recovery Solution III.

     • Press the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer. This method would be used if the computer powers on, but Windows does not load.

How To Create Backups With Samsung Recovery Solution III


A Complete Backup creates an image of the entire (C:) drive. You can use this image later to restore the system in case of system failure.

IMPORTANT: This creates a backup at the full volume size, so for example; if you have used 20GB on the PC the destination device must have 20GB available. You can use an external device to create and restore the Complete Backup.

To perform a complete backup, follow these steps:

1. Press the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer. This method would be used if the computer powers on, but Windows does not load.


2. Click Backup in the Recovery Solution III main window. The Backup dialog appears.

3. On the Backup dialog, click Complete Backup. The Backup > Complete Backup dialog appears.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to have power connected to the PC. If power is lost during a backup, you need to start the process again from the beginning.


4. On the Backup > Complete Backup dialog enter a backup description in the (Description) field, and then choose the backup location (Save Path) field. You can select a different backup location other than the location currently displayed by clicking the down arrow in that field. When finished, click Next.

5. Samsung Recovery Solution III prompts you to begin the backup process. Click Yes to start the backup process.

6. The progress bar appears and displays the current transfer speed, the amount of data copied, elapsed time, and estimated total time.

7. After the backup is complete, Recovery Solution III prompts you to restart the computer. Click Yes.

8. After the computer has finished restarting, the backup process is complete.

Creating A Data Backup


A Data Backup backs up data files. When using Data Backup, you have the option to choose which folders and files to backup.

IMPORTANT: This creates a backup at the full volume size, so for example; if you have used 20GB on the PC the destination device must have 20GB available. You can use an external device to create and restore the Complete Backup.

To perform a Data Backup, follow these steps:

1. Press the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer. This method would be used if the computer powers on, but Windows does not load.


2. Click Backup in the Recovery Solution III main window. The Backup dialog appears.

3. In the Backup dialog, click Data Backup. The Backup > Data Backup dialog appears.

4. On the Backup > Data Backup dialog, select which files and folders to back up from the 2 available options. When finished, click Next.

     • Basic Selection to save files in the My Documents, Desktop, E-mail, and Favorites folders.

     • Select From All to save files from all of the drives on and connected to the PC. When using this option you can explore the drives and folders and select which files or folders to backup individually.

5. On the Backup > Complete Backup dialog enter a backup description in the (Description) field, and then choose the backup location (Save Path) field. You can select a different backup location other than the location currently displayed by clicking the down arrow in that field. When finished, click Next.

6. Recovery Solution III prompts you to start the backup. To continue, click Yes.

7. After clicking Yes, the backup process starts. Recovery Solution III displays a progress bar to show you the current progress of the backup.

8. After the Data Backup is complete, Recovery Solution III prompts you to click OK.

     • Click OK to complete the backup.

     • Click Detail >> for detailed information on any data backup errors.

9. After clicking OK the backup is complete.

How To Perform A Restore With Samsung Recovery Solution III


A Basic Restore reloads all the Windows operating system files and leaves all personal files, programs, and settings intact. By reloading the Windows operating system, a Basic Restore can fix many Windows related problems.

To perform a Basic Restore, follow these steps:

1. Tap the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer. This method would be used if the computer powers on, but Windows does not load.


2. Click Agree to accept the Licensing Agreement. Samsung Recovery Solutions III loads. If you close the Licensing Agreement dialog Samsung Recovery Solution will close without making any changes.

3. Once Samsung Recovery Solutions loads, click Restore. The Restore dialog appears.

4. Click Basic Restore. The Restore > Basic Restore dialog appears.

5. On the Restore > Basic Restore dialog click Next.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to have power connected to the PC. If power is lost during a restore, you need to start the process again from the beginning.


6. Samsung Recovery Solution III prompts you to begin the restore process. Click Yes to start the restore process.

8. After the Complete Restore is complete, Recovery Solution III prompts you to restart your computer. Click OK to restart.

9. After you restart your computer, the restore process is complete.

Performing A Complete Restore


This restores the PC to the condition it was in when the Complete Backup was made. If a Complete Backup was never made, this can still be used to restore the PC to its initial status. (Out of the Box condition)

WARNING: A Complete restore erases all current files, settings, programs, and other data and replaces them with the files, settings, programs, and other data contained in the Complete Backup. In other words, it restores your computer to the way it was when you made the Complete Backup. Also, note that any programs installed after the Complete Backup will still need to be reinstalled.

IMPORTANT: If you have data that you need to save, create a Data Backup before performing a Complete Restore. With Data Backup you can save your files to an external device and then use Data Restore to load those files back onto the PC.

To perform a Complete Restore, follow these steps:

1. Tap the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer. This method would be used if the computer powers on, but Windows does not load.

4. Click Complete Restore. The Restore > Complete Restore dialog appears.

5. On the Restore > Complete Restore dialog, there is list of backups created using Complete Backup and the expected time needed to perform a restore with each backup. If no backups have been created then the Computer Initial Status backup is the only item listed. Click the backup you would like to use for this restore, and then click Next.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to have power connected to the PC. If power is lost during a restore, you need to start the process again from the beginning.


6. Samsung Recovery Solution III prompts you to begin the restore process. Click Yes to start the restore process.

Performing A Data Restore


A Data Restore reloads files that you have previously backed up using a Data Backup.

To perform a Data Restore, follow these steps:

2. Click Agree to accept the Licensing Agreement. Samsung Recovery Solutions III loads. If you close the Licensing Agreement dialog Samsung Recovery Solution will close without making any changes.

3. Once Samsung Recovery Solutions loads, click Restore. The Restore dialog appears.

4. Click Data Restore. The Restore > Data Restore dialog appears.

5. On Restore > Data Restore dialog, there is a list of backups created using Data Backup. If no backups have been created, the list will be empty. Select the backup you would like to use for this restore, and uncheck any items you do not want to restore. When you are finished, click Next.


6. Recovery Solution III displays a window offering two choices. After making a selection, click Next.

     • Click Original Path if you want to restore files to their original locations.

     • Click New Path, and then click Browse to select a new location.

7. Recovery Solution III prompts you to confirm the restore. Click Yes to continue.

8. Recovery Solution III displays a progress bar to show you the current progress of the restore.

NOTE: If the files you are restoring already exist in the location selected in step 5, Recovery Solution III will ask you whether to overwrite the current files with the backup files.

     • Click Yes to overwrite the files.

     • Click No to keep the current files on the computer.

9. After the Data Restore is complete, Recovery Solution III prompts you to click OK.

     • Click OK to complete the restore.

     • Click Detail >> for detailed information on any data restore errors.

10. After you've clicked OK, the Data restore is complete. Close Recovery Solutions III and restart the PC.
