Galaxy A20 - Encrypt the microSD card (SM-A205W)
If you use removable storage on your phone, you can protect your files by encrypting the microSD card. Encryption converts data from a readable form to an encoded version that can only be read on the device that was used to encrypt it. Even though it sounds high-tech, it’s easy to encrypt files stored on your memory card on your phone.
Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.
Encrypt the data on your microSD to ensure that if the card is lost or stolen, no one will be able to read the files, even if they insert it into another device.
From Settings, search for and select Encrypt SD card. Touch Encrypt SD card. If you set a lock screen, you will be required to enter your credentials before your phone encrypts the files stored on your memory card. Keep in mind encryption can take several minutes or up to an hour, depending on the size of your microSD card.
It’s important to decrypt your microSD card before a factory data reset, or if you are switching to a new phone. The data on your microSD card will not be able to be read or decrypted after a reset. The only way you can use the microSD card again is to wipe it completely.
From Settings, search for and select Decrypt SD card. Touch Decrypt SD card. If you set a lock screen, you will be required to enter your credentials before your phone decrypts the files stored on your memory card.
