Galaxy S7: How do I use the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S7?

Cameras


Your device features both front- and rear-facing cameras, which let you capture photos and videos in a variety of modes. Edit photos and videos directly on your device, and share them on social media, with other devices, and more.

Note: Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Open the Camera


1. From the Home screen, touch Apps 1 .

2. Touch CameraIcon_Camera.png.

You can also open the camera by:

    • Quickly pressing the Home key twice. You can turn the Quick launch feature on or off in the camera settings.

    • Swiping Camera Icon_Camera.png on the lock screen, unless you have changed the App shortcuts in the Lock screen and security settings to another application.

Note: The features on your screen may vary depending on the camera mode selected.

Switch Between Cameras


From the camera, touch Icon_Camera_Switch.png to switch between the front- and rear-facing cameras.


Selfie Features
    • Flash: When using the front-facing camera in poor lighting, touch FlashIcon_Camera_Flash.png twice to turn it on. When you take the selfie, the screen will turn bright white to mimic a flash.

    • Camera shutter: To take selfies, you can either touch Icon_Camera_Shutter.png on the screen or touch the heart rate monitor on the back of the device.

Capture Photos


Capture Photos

1. From the Home screen, touch Apps 1.

2. Touch Camera Icon_Camera.png.

3. If you want to change the camera mode, touch MODE and select an option. Touch INFO to read about each mode. The steps that follow apply only to Auto mode; follow the on-screen instructions for other modes.

4. Aim your device at the subject, and touch the screen to focus on a specific area. Touch and drag the slider Icon_Camera_Brightness.png to adjust the brightness.

5. Touch Icon_Camera_Shutter.png to take a photo.

Note: Touch and hold Icon_Camera_Shutter.png to take a burst of up to 100 shots.


Review Photos After Capture

You can set your device to display photos immediately after you capture them.

To activate this feature:

1. From the camera, touch Icon_Camera_Settings_3.png.

2. Scroll to and touch the slider off  next to Review pictures to turn it on on .

When you capture a photo, it will display briefly with options to Share or Delete. You can also touch Gallery to view all your photos, as well as access editing features.

Record Videos


1. From the Home screen, touch Apps 1.

2. Touch Camera Icon_Camera.png.

3. If you want to change the camera mode, touch MODE and select an option. Touch INFO to read about each mode. Some modes may not apply to videos, such as Selective focus, Panorama, Virtual shot, and Food.

4. Aim your device at the subject and touch Icon_Camera_Record.png.

5. Touch the screen to focus on a specific area. Touch and drag the slider Icon_Camera_Brightness.png to adjust the brightness.

6. Touch 1 to take a still photo while shooting the video.

7. Touch Icon_Camera_Pause.png to temporarily stop recording, or touch Icon_Camera_Stop.png to finish recording.

8. When you are finished, touch Gallery to view your videos.

Share Photos and Videos


You have the option to share your photos and videos when you view them in the Gallery.

1. From the Home screen, touch Apps 1.

2. Touch Gallery .

3. Open the photo or video you want to share.

4. Touch Share.

5. Share the photo using one of the available options. Sharing options vary based on applications installed and features turned on.

Note: Swipe to the left or right to reveal more sharing options.

Camera Settings


The five most commonly used settings display on the camera viewfinder screen:

Filter effects
Change the mood of your photos by adding a filter effect. Touch the icon to select a filter effect for your photo and to Manage and Download additional filters.

HDR
Turning HDR on creates richer colors and more definition. Touch the icon to cycle through the available HDR options.

Timer
Touch the icon to select a time delay between touching the Camera shutter button and taking the photo.
Icon_Camera_Flash.png
Flash
Touch the icon to cycle through the available flash options.
Icon_Camera_Size.png
Picture size
Choose the proportion and resolution of your photos.


Access the following camera settings by touching Icon_Camera_Settings_3.png:

    • Video size (rear): Change the video capture resolution. Note that choosing a video size larger than 1:1 will make certain features unavailable, such as HDR, filter effects, and video stabilization.

    • Tracking AF: Tracks and autofocuses on a subject you select, even if the subject or your camera moves. Touch the slider 1  next to Tracking AF to turn it on 1 . Touch the viewfinder screen to select the subject you want to track.

    • Video stabilization: Reduces jitter when holding the device to capture video. Touch the slider 1 next to Video stabilization to turn it on 1. Video stabilization will be unavailable if Tracking AF is on.

    • Grid lines: Touch to turn off or change the grid lines displayed on the screen. Display 3x3 grid lines or grid lines for a Square photo.

    • Location tags: Tags your photos with the location where they were taken. Touch the slider 1 next to Location tags to turn it on 1.

    Note: The first time you open the camera, you have the option of turning on location tags, so this feature may already be turned on.

    • Shooting methods (rear): Lets you take photos by saying, "Smile," "Cheese," "Capture," or "Shoot". Lets you start recording video by saying, "Record video". Touch the slider 1 next to Shooting methods (rear) to turn it on 1.

    • Review pictures: Lets you view photos and videos immediately after you take them. Touch the slider 1 next to Review pictures to turn it on 1.

    • Quick launch: Lets you open the camera by quickly pressing the Home key twice. Touch the slider 1 next to Quick launch to turn it on 1.

    • Save as RAW file: Saves photos captured in Pro mode without compression. To view RAW image files, you will need to download a third-party viewer application. Touch the slider 1 next to Save as RAW file to turn it on 1.

    • Volume keys function: Touch to choose how the Volume keys are used when the camera is open. You can use them to Take pictures, Record video, or Zoom.

    • Shutter sound: Touch the slider 1 next to Shutter sound to turn it off 1.

    • Reset settings: Returns your camera settings to the factory default.

    • Help: Get additional assistance using the camera.
