Smart Switch: How does Smart Switch Mobile handle my old apps?

Note: The provided information refers to the devices sold in Canada. Screens and settings available may vary depending on your Canadian wireless service provider and your software version.

Old apps

If you are switching from an iOS device to a Galaxy device, Smart Switch Mobile will search for theapps installed on your iOS device. Then, based on the findings, Smart Switch Mobile will find you the same apps on Google Play Store or will recommend similar apps. For example, for the Find My iPhone app, which is only available on Apple's App Store, Smart Switch Mobile will find you Android apps with the same functions, such as Find My Phone.


If you are switching from Android device to a Galaxy device, Smart Switch Mobile should automatically install the apps you have been using on the old device. However, automatic app installation on your new Galaxy device may be restricted depending on the OS versions and apps installed on the devices the apps are from.



• When you transfer apps from a non-Samsung device (Android Marshmallow 6.x or newer) to a new Galaxy device (Android Lollipop 5.x or older), automatic app installation will not be supported on the new Galaxy device.


• Automatic app installation is not supported between two incompatible devices.


• If an app installed on your old device already exists on your new Galaxy device, automatic app installation may not be supported for that app on the new Galaxy device.
