How Do I Get My Internal Speakers To Work When I Hook Up My HD Cable Box?
If you used a DVI cable to connect your high definition cable box to your TV, you have connected only the video portion of the signal. To get audio through your TV speakers, you must connect the audio out jacks on your cable box to the appropriate audio in jacks on your TV.
The audio in jacks come in two varieties:
- Standard audio (also called RCA jacks).
- Digital audio
Almost all cable boxes and TVs have standard audio jacks. Some have both standard audio and digital audio jacks. If you have both, you can connect your cable box to your TV with either one.
An example of each kind of audio jack is below:

Note: There are usually a number of standard audio in jacks on your TV. Use only the pair specifically labeled for DVI audio input.
