LED TV: When I Connect My TV To My Computer, I Get The Mode Not Supported Message

If you get the "Mode Not Supported" message when you connect your TV to your computer, it means that either:

  • The video output of the computer is set to a refresh rate or resolution that exceeds the TV's capabilities

    - or -

  • your video card drivers need to be updated.

To remove the Mode Not Supported message, you must adjust your settings, update your drivers, or possibly do both so that the video output is within the TV's display capabilities.

To reset the refresh rate and resolution, your best method is to attach your computer to a computer monitor you know can handle the current video settings of your computer, reset the refresh rate and resolution to fit your TV, and then re-attach the computer to your TV.

Tip: All TVs support the 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz. Samsung suggests setting your TV to this resolution and refresh rate and then raise the resolution once you have the computer connected to the TV.

And set the resolution and refresh rates compatible with your TV.

Note: To ensure your TV works best with your computer, you should set the video output of the computer to the optimum computer refresh rate and the optimum computer resolution of the TV. See below for instructions.

Refresh Rate

The optimum refresh rate for all Samsung TVs is 60 Hz. Contact your computer manufacture for instructions on how to set the refresh rate on your computer.


The optimum computer resolution of your TV depends upon the model you have. To find the optimum resolution, look in your User's Manual in the section usually titled Using Your TV as a Computer Monitor. The optimum resolution may be identified as the optimum resolution, the correct size setting, or something similar.
