Factory reset and self-diagnosis tools on your The Freestyle by Samsung

Sometimes, the tiniest change can make all of the difference when it comes to your The Freestyle’s internet, picture, and sound settings. If something does not seem quite right, your projector has built-in diagnostic tools and tests to help make pinpointing the cause a little less stressful.

Note: Information provided applies to The Freestyle projectors sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for projectors sold in other countries.

Sometimes it is good to have a fresh start. You can restore all of The Freestyle’s settings (excluding the network settings) to their factory defaults.

Using The Freestyle’s remote, press and hold the Home button until the quick settings menu appears. Select All Settings, and then select General & Privacy. Select Reset.

Factory reset

Enter your PIN (0000 is the default PIN if you have not set one before), and then select Reset. To complete the reset, select OK. Your projector will restart automatically.

Note: The Reset function is not available if you are using an app.

If The Freestyle does not connect to the internet, do not panic. Just perform a network test to see what the problem is.

Using The Freestyle’s remote, press and hold the Home button until the quick settings menu appears. Select All Settings, and then select Connections. Select Network, and then select Network Status. The network status test will finish and show the status of your network connection.

Run a Network Status test
  • When there is an X between the projector and the router, this means the issue is with either the TV or the home network.
  • When there is an X between the router and the Earth icon (internet), this means there is an issue between your home network and the ISP.

Just like on Samsung TVs, the Smart Hub gives you access to streaming services, apps, and more. The Connection Test diagnoses problems you might have with your Smart Hub connection, like when the internet is down.

1 To perform one, press and hold the Home button on The Freestyle’s remote until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Select All Settings, and select Support.
3 Select Device Care, and then select Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Smart Hub Connection Test.
Select Smart Hub Connection Test.
5 If no problems are detected, select Close after the test is complete.

Note: If any problems are detected, please review the on-screen instructions.

6 If you are still experiencing issues with Smart Hub, you may want to try resetting the Hub. Navigate back to the Self Diagnosis page.
7 Select Reset Smart Hub, and then enter your PIN (the default PIN is 0000).
8 After the reset is complete, select OK.

Does the picture look a little funky? You can use the Picture Test to determine if picture problems are being caused by The Freestyle itself or something else.

1 Using The Freestyle’s remote, press and hold the Home button until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Select All Settings, and select Support.
3 Select Device Care, and then select Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Picture Test.
Select Picture Test.
5 The Picture Test displays a high definition photo that you can examine for flaws or faults. Look at the screen for any problems, and use the on-screen instructions to complete the picture test.
  • If the test photo is displayed properly, there may be a problem with an external connected device. Check the connections, the signal strength, or refer to the external device's user manual.
  • If the picture test does not appear or you see an issue with the photo, the issue may be caused by the projector. Please contact Samsung Support for further assistance.
6 If you are still having issues or if you would like to start over with your picture settings, you can reset them. Navigate to and open Settings, and then select Picture.
Navigate to and open Settings, and then select Picture.
7 Select Expert Settings, and then select Reset Picture.
8 Select Yes to confirm.

Garbled sound or static noises can ruin a perfectly good movie or show. If your The Freestyle is having audio problems, you can run a Sound Test to find out the cause of the issue or simply reset the projector’s sound settings.

1 Using The Freestyle’s remote, press and hold the Home button until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Select All Settings, and select Support.
3 Select Device Care, and then select Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Sound Test.
Select Sound Test.
5 Look at the screen for any problems, and use the on-screen instructions to complete the sound test. The Sound Test plays a melody to help determine if there is an issue with the projector’s speakers. If the melody plays without issue, there may be an issue with a connected external device. Check the connections or refer to the external device's user manual.
6 If you still hear a problem in the Sound Test, select Yes. Otherwise, select No. If there is a problem, you will be asked to contact Samsung Support. Be ready to provide the on-screen information to the support agent.
7 If you are still having issues or if you would like to start over with your sound settings, you can reset them. Navigate to and open Settings, and then select Sound.
Navigate to and open Settings, and then select Sound.
8 Select Expert Settings, and then select Reset Sound.
9 Select Yes to confirm.
