5 of the next generation of football stars.

Video of the hottest new football stars of 2018

We present a list of the next generation of football stars. These teenagers have made their mark on the field and impressed the world with their talents. Check out why we think they are the players to watch in 2019.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Gianluigi Donnarumma is yet to even celebrate his 20th birthday. But with eleven Italy caps, over 100 Serie A appearances and transfer rumours linking him with every major club in Europe, he’s one of football’s hottest prospects. As a goalkeeper, he is not even supposed to reach his peak for another decade, but the future of Italian goalkeeping has packed an awful lot into the beginnings of what everyone agrees will be a glittering career.

Kai Havertz

In October 2016, Havertz became the club's youngest Bundesliga debutante at the age of 17 and he’s shown remarkable progress ever since. Now 19, the German footballer is fast becoming one of Europe's most wanted. Standing at over 6”2’, the Aachen-born midfielder etched his name into the record books as the youngest player ever to make 50 top-flight appearances in Germany. He’s made a club-high 1.6 dribbles per game and has averaged 0.7 key passes per outing, leading a dynamic and young side that remain one of the most exciting in Germany.

Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs is one of the brightest talents to come out of Ajax's famous academy over the last decade and is a regular in the Holland national team. Strong physically and mentally, quick and technically proficient, there’s good reason de Ligt has become a fixture of Ajax's first team over the last few seasons. His commanding performances have helped his side reach the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time in 15 years. After a monumental 2018, de Ligt has the world at his feet.

Reiss Nelson

Reiss Nelson made 16 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season, garnering 764 minutes of action, which roughly equates to nine full matches. Not bad for a teenager who’s just turned 19. A gaggle of clubs were interested in signing him on a loan, but Hoffenheim were the side Nelson plumped for. And it's safe to say his decision has already paid off. With 17 appearances already under his belt, five of them coming in the starting eleven, Nelson has notched six goals and assisted one more. The Southwark-born star is well on course to becoming an Arsenal regular when he returns to North London in the summer of 2019, and an England call-up surely beckons.

Jadon Sancho

Since 18-year-old Sancho took the bold step from the Etihad to Borussia Dortmund, he’s shaken up the Bundesliga. He helped BVB surge to the summit of Germany's top-flight league and left Gareth Southgate with no choice but to bring him into the senior England squad. His impactful nature on the pitch has seen his value skyrocket by an astronomical 806% in just the last three months, going from £8.77 million to £79.44m, according to the CIES Football Observatory. Southwark-born Sancho took great strides in 2018, and there seems to be no limits to his potential.
