Samsung Electronics is dedicated to relentlessly addressing the issue of climate change. By forging alliances and collaborations with diverse stakeholders, our efforts span across a wide range of domestic and global initiatives, business partnerships, and impactful external communication endeavors.
Committed to transitioning to renewable energy, we joined RE100, a global initiative that drives renewable energy transition. We are continuously expanding renewable energy through diverse procurement strategies. In particular, Samsung Electronics is expanding the PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for global businesses by developing competitive renewable energy projects and engaging in activities such as collaborating with stakeholders to streamline PPA policies. As a member of the RE100 Advisory Committee (March 2024-February 2028), Samsung Electronics takes part in discussions on the initiative’s strategy and policy recommendations.
Samsung Electronics is one of the founding members of the ACEC, jointly established in 2022 by the Climate Group, the Global Wind Energy Council, and the World Resources Institute to accelerate the shift to renewable energy and decarbonize power grids in Asia. We actively participate in its Steering Committee, Strategy Advisory Group, and Country Working Groups, alongside other global companies.
In particular, we continue our efforts to create a favorable renewable energy environment in our primary production bases, South Korea and Vietnam. We collaborate with ACEC members through both direct and indirect initiatives, such as attending corporate meetings to increase the transparency of South Korea's Green Premium Program and proposing policy enhancements. In Vietnam, our collective engagement with the Vietnamese government to introduce a renewable energy PPA mechanism led to the issuance of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) decree in July 2024. In January 2026, we successfully signed Vietnam's first DPPA via the national power grid.
Samsung Electronics is a member of CoREi, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable growth for companies and expanding corporate renewable energy in South Korea. Key outreach activities of CoREi include:
Samsung Electronics is a member of the Carbon-Free Alliance, serving on its Board of Directors and engaging in various working groups. The impact areas of this public-private partnership include developing international standards and certification systems for Carbon-Free Energy (CFE), including renewable energy, hydrogen, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage), and nuclear energy, while expanding the adoption of CFE to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the industrial sector. The Carbon-Free Alliance primarily focuses on the following impact areas:
Since 2022, DS Division has been serving as a founding member of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC), strengthening global leadership in addressing climate change within the semiconductor industry and working to build a sustainable business environment. The SCC consists of the Governing Council and five working groups. By participating in each of these working groups, we have carried out a range of initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the semiconductor industry. We continuously strengthen our industry network by sharing our carbon reduction best practices and milestones at major consortium events, while actively advocating our perspectives during member discussions. Building on these efforts, we are committed to collaborating with various supply chain partners, including our suppliers, to contribute to the global semiconductor industry's carbon reduction and to continuously identify collective opportunities for emission reductions.
To support these initiatives, Samsung Electronics provides industry insights on net zero and resource circularity trends and government policies. The company makes policy recommendations necessary to achieve net zero emissions, including expanding affordable renewable energy supply and improving PPA-related mechanism through active participation in various associations, including the KCCI (Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry), the KEF (Korea Enterprises Federation), the FKI (Federation of Korean Industries), and the KEA (Korea Electronics Association), among others. Recent activities include:
SEMICON is a leading conference showcasing the latest technologies and trends in the global semiconductor industry. To strengthen sustainability-focused collaboration within the sector, we actively participate in SEMICON to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
In a bid to strengthen competitiveness in the electronics and semiconductor sectors, Samsung Electronics actively communicates with industry partners. The company provides various support programs, including training and consultation designed to strengthen partners’ Sustainability management capabilities and promote GHG reduction. Samsung Electronics also organizes separate exchange meetings with the Samsung Partners Association, covering various agendas including:
Samsung Electronics has actively suggested policy environment improvements for renewable energy expansion by communicating its position on policies regarding improvements to RE100 implementation in South Korea through various channels, including ▲securing affordable and stable renewable energy, ▲activating corporate renewable energy PPA, ▲expanding renewable energy supply, and ▲seeking institutional and policy support from the government. This also includes participation in the following meetings and conferences:
Samsung Electronics has been actively engaging with key Vietnamese authorities, including the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV), and Vietnam Electricity (EVN), to introduce a renewable energy PPA mechanism in Vietnam, one of our major manufacturing locations. As a result of these efforts, a decree for DPPA was issued in 2024. We continue to communicate with stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of this mechanism.
In addition, Samsung Electronics has been sharing its climate action related efforts utilizing a range of innovative technologies with various stakeholders, which includes:
