Our business operations are centered on a stringent health and safety management system which mandates that all our production sites attain ISO 45001, the standard of occupational health and safety management systems. As of 2024, 100% of our production sites around the world have obtained certification.
We identify potential risks through the annual environment and safety assessment by experts, review compliance with regulations, and inspect facility management on-site. We have also introduced a serious accident risk assessment initiative that brings together internal and external specialists. They evaluate the status of safety and health management systems and standards at our business sites and continuously identify and mitigate on-site risks.
Safety management system
Our safety management system, encompassing hazardous machinery management, on-site safety inspections, and safety monitoring, is designed to help all employees efficiently handle related tasks.
Identifying and mitigating potential risks
We continuously strive to ensure a safe working environment by encouraging employees to actively identify potential risks in the workplace.
In DX Division, various safety programs and campaigns such as the "Find Unseen Hazards" and "No Safety, No Work" initiatives are in place to encourage employees to actively identify and address potential risks. In July 2024, the DX Safety Principles were declared to promote initiatives that encourage all employees to ensure each other’s safety and actively participate in establishing a safety culture in daily life. In addition, DX Division operates an EHS communication channel that allows employees to share their opinions on workplace safety at any time. Through these efforts, DX Division identified 10,167 potential risks in 2024.
DS Division enables employees to voluntarily identify and address potential risks at business sites through a potential risk identification program. Outstanding contributors are encouraged through awards and campaigns to promote active participation. In addition, DS division continuously gathers feedback on each department’s safety and health needs through its safety culture community and quarterly forums. Through these efforts, DS Division identified 34,405 potential risks in 2024 through the participation of 3,037 employees.
Managing risks related to fire, explosion, and natural disasters
DX Division collaborated with external specialists to perform a comprehensive assessment of its business sites deemed to have potential risks related to fire, explosion, and natural disasters. In Korea, the scope of this work included inspections of firefighting and high-pressure gas equipment and an analysis of natural disaster scenarios – including severe wind, storms, and floods – and evacuation simulations. At DX Division's global business sites, we identified and mitigated risk factors at each business site. These efforts included building-specific fire risk assessments and evacuation safety consulting.
DS Division established a safety management system to prevent dangerous explosions. A dedicated organizational unit was formed to conduct quality control and regular inspections of explosion-proof facilities while also fostering 36 experts based on our IECEx1) CoPC2) certifications. Based on such efforts, its Giheung and Hwaseong sites attained IECEx CSF3) granted by IECEx in February 2022 in recognition of workplace safety, followed by its Pyeongtaek, Cheonan, and Onyang sites. All of DS Division’s business sites in Korea are now IECEx-certified. IECEx CSF is a testament to workplace operation in accordance with international explosion protection standards. DS Division plans to continually elevate its explosion protection capacity to new heights at all of its sites.
Reinforcing on-premise
traffic safety
DX Division performed a comprehensive traffic safety assessment in collaboration with an external specialist to prevent accidents and improve infrastructure on the premises of its business sites. Traffic accident risks were identified at the sites based on an analysis of congestion levels on commuter buses and the optimization of the logistics routes of large trucks entering the premises, and efforts were made to ensure pedestrian safety and improve traffic safety facilities and infrastructure. To help create a safer workplace, the division has implemented the "5 Safety Rules" concerning pedestrian, vehicle, and bicycle safety, and is running campaigns to encourage employees to follow them voluntarily.
DS Division conducted traffic safety consulting to identify and mitigate risk factors, aiming to prevent accidents within its business sites. In 2025, it plans to upgrade and operate a risk assessment tool tailored to the road characteristics and facility safety conditions of each site.
Risk assessment process
To prevent safety accidents at our business sites, Samsung Electronics operates a risk assessment system that identifies potential hazards and risks in advance and establishes and implements mitigation measures.
