First launched in 2013, Samsung Junior Software (SW) Academy partners with the Korea’s Ministry of Education to train teachers who can provide software education to students in elementary and middle schools. In 2021, the curriculum was redesigned to focus on artificial intelligence (AI). The Academy develops AI training materials together with field experts and train teachers. It also provides students with educational programs and hands-on training kits.
“Thanks to the media’s continued coverage of AI and related technologies, children today are well aware that developing data-based problem solving skills is important in any field. For the past 14 years I have been working in information technology education and I think Samsung Junior SW Academy’s systematic curriculum genuinely helps children grow up as critical thinkers.”
Since 2015 we have hosted Samsung Junior SW Cup to discover future talents in software, provide them with advanced software education, and enable them to use their critical thinking skills to contribute to society through better ideas and solutions.
Developed by Lee Ji-hyeon, Yun Ye-yeong, and Jeong Heon-jae, participants in the Samsung Junior SW Cup, ‘Da-tective’ helps to prevent the accidental online exposure of personal data. This application uses AI software to automatically mask images containing personal information before these images are uploaded online.
