Power Usage Reduction at Business Sites

We are making various efforts to reduce power consumption at our business sites and improve energy efficiency by optimizing manufacturing processes.

Through activities such as reducing testing times in semiconductor manufacturing processes and optimizing the operating conditions of auxiliary equipment, DS Division is minimizing increases in Scope 2 indirect emissions by reducing electricity consumption. To this end, the division explores energy-saving measures and operates a system to monitor facility power usage by time period. In 2024, by analyzing the power consumption of all parts within the equipment, the division stopped the operation of unused or unnecessary components and turned off low-efficiency equipment with a low operating time ratio, thereby reducing standby power. Notably, the division reduced the use of heating jackets in vacuum piping and improved the operational logic for chillers with high electricity consumption, ensuring they operate in order of energy efficiency, from the most efficient to the least efficient. Furthermore, by recovering waste heat from the high-temperature cooling water produced by chillers, we are able to improve the efficiency of cooling tower fans and optimize overall cooling tower performance. In 2024, it also introduced smart lighting* in select parking towers, further reducing electricity use. In 2025, DS Division plans to expand smart lighting across all parking towers and is also exploring additional areas for further installation.

DX Division is incorporating various smart technologies into its infrastructure systems. By using an b.IoT (Internet of Things for business) based solutions, the chiller efficiency monitoring and automatic control system analyzes operating conditions in real time and automatically adjusts settings to optimal conditions, thereby improving energy efficiency. In addition, pneumatic compressors, which generate compressed air using electricity, help reduce power consumption through an efficiency management system.

Samsung Electronics will continue to research and develop new equipment with low-power and high efficiency, while also identifying and implementing energy efficiency measures.
