Coral Reef Restoration Project

Samsung Electronics is partnering with Seatrees, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring marine ecosystems, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego to restore endangered coral reefs across the globe.

During coral reef restoration, underwater photography plays a key role in monitoring and analyzing the condition of coral reefs. To improve data collection efficiency, Samsung Electronics developed a custom camera mode called Ocean Mode* for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Ocean Mode optimizes the performance of the standard Galaxy camera to capture high-quality images of coral reefs underwater. Accurate data can now be collected through user-friendly smartphones instead of bulky cameras, enhancing the efficiency of restoration efforts.

  • * Ocean Mode is exclusively supported for this project and is not available in products for general consumers.
