What is a Solid State Drive(SSD)?

Last Update Date : Mar 28. 2018

SSD stands for Solid State Drive and it is used for storing data in a much better way than what we have been doing so far in our PC. An SSD is different to how an Hard Disk Drive (HDD) functions. It is much like those small USB memory stick which uses microchips to store data and it does not have any READ/WRITE head like HDD. This difference makes SSD  much faster and a preferable product to use for your PC.

Lets find out more about SSD and why it is the next big thing in data storage :

● SSD is much faster than other products as the average boot up time is around 22 secs when  compared to 40 secs for HDD.

● SSD consumes less power due to less movable hardware parts inside unlike HDD.

● SSD produces less heat beacuse of no movable part increasing the life of your PC.

● It consumes less battery giving a better back up to your laptop.

● SSD does not produce any noise or vibration while on run unlike HDD.

● SSD uses flash memory which means, even after the device is tuned off suddenly. It will know the data stored in it.

The only drawback for SSD is the price it comes for if compared to cheaper options like an HDD. However, if one prefers faster and better performance over a longer duration then SSD is your choice.
