What is Screen Mirroring?

Screen mirroring or screen casting allows you to mirror your mobile device's content to your TV screen.

Screen mirroring technology has changed substantially over recent years and the best method to mirror your screen will differ depending on the age, model and manufacturer of your smartphone, tablet and TV.

A lot of apps, such as Netflix and Youtube now have a screen mirroring function built in. If you are using a casting device such as Chromecast, you may need to connect your account for that app to the casting app in order to mirror.

The screen mirroring function on your smartphone or tablet will be called Screen Mirroring, Smart View or Quick Connect depending on your model and operating system.

The quickest way to find this function is to use your finger to drag down from the top of your screen to pull up the notification menu and look for the function.

Screen mirroring and Smart View will appear as an icon in the menu, and Quick Connect will appear as a search bar beneath the icon menu. (Note that you may need to drag down twice to access the full menu).

• Many non-Samsung phones does not have the Screen mirroring option, only have Wi-Fi Direct. Those in which Scren mirroring is possible, should have either Mirroring/Miracast/Wireless Display/Mirror Share/Screencast/Screen Share/Smart View to connect with Samsung Smart LED TV models. Check with mobile manufacturer for details.

Which Samsung TVs have screen mirroring?Click to Expand

Smart mirroring is available on Samsung smart TVs that are capable of a Wi-Fi connection.

The first Samsung model that supported screen mirroring was the F range in 2013.

If you have an older model without Wi-Fi, you will need a casting device such as a Samsung AllShare Cast. If you have a Chromecast or an Amazon Firestick, you can also share your screen through these.

TroubleshootingClick to Expand

If your smartphone or tablet isn't connecting, it is likely due to one of the below reasons:

Your devices aren't on the same Wi-Fi network. As a security measure, devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to mirror (this stops your neighbour broadcasting to your TV by mistake).

Your smartphone or tablet is on a different or old operating system. Some non-Samsung devices do not have full compatibility with Samsung TVs. Most Android devices should be able to mirror effectively, but other devices such as Apple's AirPlay are designed to be used with Apple TVs and may have limited functionality.

In these cases, you may be able to find a third party app that will connect the two, or can try using an HDMI cable or using a separate streaming device.

Both devices do not have screen mirroring switched on. You need to have the mirroring connection to be open on both your smartphone/tablet and the TV for the mirroring to work correctly.
