Sportive events boost Samsung’s TV sales up to 25% in Latin America

Passionate about sports and patriots lived their emotions with the best image during 2018 sports season, states Samsung Electronics after positive results in Latin America. LATAM market registered a sales increase by 25% in the first five months of the year towards 2017, selling over 10M units in the region.

“Latin Americans are very passionate consumers for technology and enthusiasts when it comes to technological innovations, indeed. If at a football stadium each person had bought a Samsung TV, we comparatively would have sold the equivalent to 48 stadiums. Considering that Samsung has innovation in its DNA, being present in a region whose culture is very open to these novelties is a privilege. I believe this is one of the reasons we are so successful in here and that we are optimistic about the future”, said Edgar Kato, Samsung Electronics Latin America TV Senior Manager.

Keeping QLED TV expansion in important markets of the region such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Central America & Caribbean, the brand accounted for more than 45% Market Share. In addition, in Premium categories like UHD and Big Screen (55" up)*, Samsung is leading with more than 50% of Market Share. 

Central America and Caribbean
One of the most preeminent markets in the region, 2018 started optimistically for the Central America and Caribbean market. In the period between [January] and [June] of this year, the TV sector grew by 59%.

“Following the global trend, the consumers are looking for TVs with 4K technology and bigger screens. Sport events encourage them to look for and buy a new TV and enjoy the best of live 4K broadcast”, said Ricardo Gonzalez, Sales director of TV for Central America and Caribbean. 

Worldwide leader
It is not only in Latin America that Samsung has proven itself as a market leader and a technology pioneer. The company’s sales of larger screen TVs 65-inch and over has grown by more than 30 percent in recent years. According to research firm IHS Markit, the market volume of 65-inch and over TVs was 8 million in 2016 and increased to 11.4 million in 2017. This year, market volume is expected to reach 16 million units.

 The market for extra-large, or above 75-inch, TVs is expected to experience even more pronounced growth of 47% this year, a key reason why Samsung has made this segment a core focus area. In the first quarter of this year, the company’s global sales of 65-inch and larger TVs increased over 35% year over year. In the same period, sales of Samsung TVs in the South American market spiked nearly four times, and the demand for large-sized Samsung TVs almost doubled in Korea. 

Technology over all
A good quality TV is not made only by lots of pixels. That’s what Samsung believes, according to Ricardo Gonzalez, Sales director of TV for Central America and Caribbean. The executive reinforces that, to deliver the best experience for consumers, Samsung QLED TV and UHD 4k models have been developed to perform according to its specifications and, more important, according to real life usage.

“Among other standout features, Samsung QLED TV is the world’s only TV delivering 100% of color volume and has technologies such as ‘anti-reflection’ so users can enjoy pure blacks, ‘Q HDR Elite (HDR 10+)’ enhances the level of brightness and expressed details, and 4K Q Engine automatically upscales content to 4K resolution, optimizing it for the big screen.”, said Gonzalez.
