Galaxy device is not charging when water icon appears

Last Update date : Jul 25. 2022

IP, or Ingress Protection, is a universally accepted measurement of varying degrees for dust and liquid resistance.  If you have an S7 or newer, your phone is equipped with protection from water and dirt which means you can bring it with you on adventures and take comfort in knowing that you can carry on using these devices.

IP68

IP68 rating means complete protection from dust ingress and temporary immersion in up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. However, if the device is charged when the USB port is exposed to water, moisture orhumidity, there is a risk of short circuits and device may damage.

To prevent this, the device limits to charge properly and displays the caution notification text with water recognition icon on both notification panel and AOD screen.

To fully resume the charging power, dry the device thoroughly before use and keep it  at a well-ventilated place for a certain period of time. For faster drying, hold the device with the speaker facing downward and shake gently. Dry the device thoroughly using cool wind is also helpful.

Please check Water and Dust IP Ratings on Galaxy device for more information

Note: Unapproved chargers/cables or improper connection to the charger can cause damage to the device and it may not charge properly.
