When Should I Use HDMI Cable?

Last Update Date : Apr 09. 2018

You should use HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable when the components you intend to connect are HDMI compatible - that is, they both have HDMI jacks - and you want the highest quality digital video and/or audio connection.

HDMI carries both uncompressed digital audio and video in a single cable, which lets you hook up HDMI compatible components with just one connecting cable.

The Kind of HDMI Cable To Use

All Samsung TV's from 2010 and 2011 use either the 1.3 or 1.4 HDMI standard. If your TV has the 3D feature it uses the 1.4 HDMI standard. All other TV's use the 1.3 HDMI standard.

Samsung TV's from 2007, 2008, and 2009

For those 2007, 2008, 2009 Samsung TVs that have HDMI 1.3, you should use HDMI cables that are specifically HDMI 1.3 compatible. For those 2007, 2008, and 2009 Samsung TVs that do not have HDMI 1.3, you can use any standard HDMI cable.

TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Note 1: All HDMI 1.3 cables have the same signal carrying capabilities. For the kind of short connection runs that most people have (for example, from a cable box to the back of a TV) any HDMI 1.3 cable is sufficient. Expensive, high-end HDMI 1.3 cables offer no discernable advantage over moderately priced HDMI 1.3 cables.

Note 2: All standard, HDMI cables have the same signal carrying capabilities. For the kind of short connection runs that most people have (for example, from a cable box to the back of a TV) any standard HDMI cable is sufficient. Expensive, high-end HDMI cables offer no discernable advantage over moderately priced, standard HDMI cables.

Samsung TVs From 2006 And Earlier

Any standard HDMI cable is compatible with the HDMI jacks on 2006 and earlier Samsung TVs.

Again, all standard, HDMI cables have the same signal carrying capabilities. For the kind of short connection runs that most people have (for example, from a cable box to the back of a TV) any standard HDMI cable is sufficient. Expensive, high-end HDMI cables offer no discernable advantage over moderately priced, standard HDMI cables.
