  • mail
Consumers are a step closer to the commercialization of the new 5G technology-based services including autonomous driving applications, Virtual Reality (VR) and Internet of Things (IoT). Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Exynos Modem 5100, a multi-mode communication chip developed in line with 5G mobile communication standards. The end-user equipment prototype embedded with the new modem successfully passed the 5G access network-based over-the-air (OTA) 5G-NR (New Radio) data call test under a wireless environment utilizing Samsung’s 5G base station. Find out more about the Exynos Modem 5100, the accelerator of 5G commercialization, in the infographic below.
4 benefits of Exynos Modem 5100. Benefit 1 - Samsung's New Modem to Accelerate the Commercialization of 5G; 1) Industry's first 5G multi-mode modem fully compliant with 3GPP Release 15. 2) Available to customers by the end of 2018. Benefit 2 - Covering network access from 5G to 2G; 1) The Exynos Modem 5100 supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrums for 5G systems as well as legacy networks from 2G to 4G.*, *2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, and 4G LTE. Benefit 3 - Faster and more stable data communication; 1) The Exynos Modem 5100 delivers a maximum downlink speed of up to 2Gbps in 5G's sub-6GHz settings, and 6Gbps* in mmWave settings. * The ability to transfer data up to 5 times faster than previous solutions. 2) Faster 1.6Gbps* downlink speeds can also be delivered on 4G LTE networks. * Previously 1.2Gbps speed. Benefit 4 - Enabling advanced 5G experience; 1) The Exynos Modem 5100 features high efficiency in a one-chip design built on 2nd-Generation 10-nm process technology. 2) The modem will enable the realization of new ideas and next-generation technologies.
