Dr. Kinam Kim is the president of the Semiconductor Business of Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions Division.

He is also the president of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and the Korea Printed Electronics Association, respectively and a member of the Board for the International Printed Electronics Association. He was also the Chair of the Korean Display Industry Association (KDIA), which strives to promote display related technologies in Korea. He is an active supporter of academia who is participating as a member to the President¡¯s Council of Olin College (USA). He has been appointed IEEE Fellow (2002), and Samsung Fellow (2003). He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (2010) and a Foreign Associate of US National Academy of Engineering (2012). He also serves as a Vice-Chair of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies.

He joined Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in 1981, where he led developments of various memory technologies (64Kilo-bit to 4Giga-bit densities for DRAM, 2Gb to 32Gb and beyond for NAND Flash). He was promoted to the position of vice president and later, to executive vice president in the Semiconductor R&D Center where he played an active role in advancing the memory technologies, such as DRAM, NAND and PRAM, and other technologies including CMOS image sensors. He was appointed president and CEO of SAIT in 2010, and he also held the role of CTO of Samsung Electronics and Samsung Group. As the CEO of SAIT, he lead an organization that searches and nurtures the next generation of technologies that will have an impact on the future semiconductor related fields as well as others, such as nanotechnologies (graphene, CNT, quantum dots, etc), advanced materials, 3D fusion technologies (3D display, etc), energy technologies (batteries, solar cells, etc.), printed electronics, and so on. On December 2012, he was appointed President and CEO of Samsung Display Co, one of the landmark businesses of Samsung Group which includes LCD, OLED, mobile display businesses. Dr. Kim was appointed as a head of the Memory Business of Samsung Electronics on December, 2013 and System LSI Business on April, 2014. He became the General Manager of Semiconductor Business on June, 2014. As of November, 2017, Dr. Kim heads DS(Device Solutions) Division and is CEO of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, the primary research center for the components and material.

Dr. Kim has been an active supporter for advancing future technologies through numerous plenary talks and invited speeches in internationally renowned conferences such as VLSI, IEDM, ISSCC, IEEE Nano, etc. He has also been engaged in international conferences and workshops such as A-SSCC (Conference Chair), IEEE IEDM (committee member), SSDM, etc. He has published more than 480 technical papers in prestigious journals, including several papers in Nature and Science, and holds more than 130 patents. He has co-authored excerpts in several books on semiconductor technology such as "Future Trends in Microelectronics", "Ferroelectric Random Access Memory: Fundamentals and applications", "Electronic Device Architectures for nano-CMOS Era: from ultimate CMOS Scaling to beyond CMOS Devices" and "Integrated Interconnect Technologies for 3D Nanoelectronics Systems".

He has been honored twice with Samsung Award, the most honorable recognition within the Samsung Group, for his work on 1Mega-bit DRAM and 1Gb DRAM in 1986 and 1996, respectively. He was a recipient of the prestigious national research award, IR52 Jang-Young-shil Award in 2003. In 2010, he was honored with the Golden Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit of Korea and was appointed as a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He received the ISI’s citation award for highly cited paper in 2000. He has obtained international recognition for his work and was appointed IEEE Fellow in 2002 and IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Storage data device technology award in 2009. He has also been honored with the Professional Achievement award of UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) School of Engineering in 2008, Award from Seoul National University (2010) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (2013). And he has honored by Imec with the "Lifetime of Innovation Award" in 2017.

He received his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Seoul National University in 1981, and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea) in 1983. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 1994.
