Exynos Modem 5100
Modem that brings 5G into a reality
5G is becoming a reality with the Exynos Modem 5100. The Exynos Modem 5100 is fully compliant with 5G NR (New Radio) standard to support new spectrums including sub-6GHz and mmWave for faster data speed of up to 6Gbps. Furthermore, the Exynos Modem 5100 is the industry’s first multi-mode modem that supports 5G NR with the legacy modes from 2G to 4G LTE. The modem is built on 10LPP process for low power, and is delivered as a single chipset that consists of modem, RF IC, ET (Envelop Tracking) and power management IC for faster time-to-market. With the Exynos Modem 5100, 5G NR enables various brand new experiences through enhanced broadband and massive connection with ultra-reliable and low latency.

5G NR

Redefines speed.
The Exynos Modem 5100 is a cellular modem that is fully compliant with 5G NR defined by 3GPP’s Release 15 delivering the first set of 5G standard. The Exynos Modem 5100 supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter Wave) spectrum bands for extremely fast, massive and reliable data connection to realize 5G’s essentials of eMBB(ehnhanced Mobile Broadband), mMTC(massive Machine-type Commnication) and URLLC(Ultra Reliable & Low Latency Communication). The Exynos Modem 5100 enables mobile device to deliver entirely different user experience with faster download speed of up to 2Gbps with sub-6GHz and 6Gbps with mmWave1) which is about 1.7 times and five times faster than its predecessor respectively.2)

Higher throughput

More data in less time.
The Exynos Modem 5100 for 5G NR enables mobile devices to utilize wider network bandwidth in both mmWave and sub-6GHz. The 5G NR allows utilizing of wider bandwidth up to 100MHz per component carrier in sub-6GHz and over ten times wider in mmWave when compared to a conventional LTE’s 20MHz. The Exynos Modem 5100 also supports up to 256-QAM for sub-6GHz and up to 64-QAM for mmWave enabling more bits of data per symbol transferred over the network. Thus, the Exynos Modem 5100 enables higher throughput while using network resource efficiently. And the modem also supports advanced beam-forming technology that actively focuses the radio signal into a precise and highly accurate beam. It allows mmWave to overcome many of the environmental challenges that affect communications such as people crowded or density built-up area.

Multi-mode

Versatile
single chip.
The Exynos Modem 5100 is a multi-mode modem that supports 5G NR as well as diverse legacy major modes from 2G to 4G LTE including GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, LTE-FDD and LTE-TDD in a single chip. By supporting the 5G and the legacy modes in a single chip, the modem allows mobile devices to operate efficiently while crossing networks from legacy mode to 5G. It delivers better compatibility on the conventional network environment without using extra modem for legacy networks. Notably, the Exynos Modem 5100 supports LTE category 19 for downlink speed up to 1.6Gbps via 8CA (Carrier Aggregation) and advanced features such as 256-QAM and 4x4 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output).

All-in-one chipset

Packed and ready to power on.
The Exynos Modem 5100 is provided as a single chipset that consists of cellular modem, RF, ET (Envelope Tracking) and power management IC. It helps device manufacturer to reduce time and resource for development resulting in faster time-to-market. Notably, the Exynos RF offers superb compatibility to support all major RF modes even the unlicensed 5GHz allowing cutting-edge 5G smartphones to be made available to consumers much faster.

Power efficiency

Do more.
Stay connected.
The Exynos Modem 5100, built on the advanced 10nm FinFET process with low-power design, features better power efficiency. The 10LPP, the 2nd generation 10nm FinFET process, allows up to 10-percent higher performance or 15-percent lower power consumption compared to 10LPE (Low Power Early) process. And the Exynos Modem 5100 features low-power state mode that drastically controls power and clock supply. Furthermore, the Exynos Modem 5100 is delivered with the Envelope Tracking IC that efficiently determines the power supply voltage needed by tracking and optimizing signal level in real-time.
