How to look after the Galaxy Fold screen

With a little care and maintenance, you can keep your Galaxy Fold screen protected.

Tips for protecting the screen

Follow these recommendations to keep your Galaxy Fold looking good and working well:

  • Before folding the phone, make sure there are no objects such as cards, coins, or keys in between the screens. Otherwise, a sharp object could potentially damage the hinge or scratch the screen.
  • Fold the device before putting it in a bag or storing it. Be sure not to store the device unfolded as another object could scratch or puncture the screen.
  • Galaxy Fold is not water and dust resistant. Do not let any liquid or particles come into contact with your device.
  • Do not press the screen with a hard or sharp object, such as a pen or fingernail. Excessive force or pressure could result in scratches or damage.
  • Do not remove the protective top layer from the main screen, or attach any adhesives accessories, such as protectors or stickers.
  • Do not place magnets near the phone. Magnetic objects, such as credit cards, boarding passes or parking passes may be damaged or disabled by the magnets in the Galaxy Fold.

Please note: Galaxy Fold contains magnets which may affect medical devices, such as pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators. If you are using any of these medical devices, keep your device a safe distance from them and speak to your doctor before using the device.

Why is there a crease in the middle of the main screen?

The main display of the Galaxy Fold is made from an advanced polymer layer and an adhesive that is flexible and strong enough to endure repeated folding.

You might see a slight crease in the center of the main screen. This is normal for a device with a flexible display and is a result of the characteristics of the new polymer material.  It does not affect the display’s quality, lifespan, or performance, and should not impede your experience using the device or viewing content.

What should I do if I notice scratches or dents on the screen?

Do not press the screen with a hard or sharp object, such as a pen or fingernail. Excessive force or pressure could result in scratches or damage.

If you notice scratches or dents on the screen, please visit an authorised Samsung Service Centre to check whether you are eligible for warranty. Depending on the types of scratch or damage, service may not be covered by the warranty and additional costs for service may be incurred.

Why is there a gap between the displays?

In order to fold the main display as tightly as possible and minimise the space between the two sides of the screen when folded, the display features a slight curvature. This is not a defect.

I sometimes hear a noise when I fold my device. Is this ok?

Galaxy Fold opens smoothly thanks to one of the most important hardware features of the device – a dual virtual-axis hinge with multiple interlocking gears. The compact hinge design maximises the screen size and means unfolding the device feels natural, like opening a book. There are also layers of cushioning fitted around the device to protect it when folding the device and from any pressure put on the hinge or screen when folded.

If you're wondering why you can hear a noise when you fold or unfold your device, it might be the small metal parts in the hinge rubbing against one another. This is normal and to be expected. You might also hear a noise if the edge is pressed which is likely to be the cushion layers compressing. Again, this is normal and expected.

All Samsung smartphones undergo rigorous internal testing in state-of-the-art reliability labs. Galaxy Fold has been tested to withstand 200,000 folds and unfolds (equivalent to around five years of use if used 100 times a day) giving you peace of mind to use your device as you do normally.

If you find that the hinge isn't working properly however, or it is uncomfortable to use, please visit an authorised Samsung Service Centre.
