SAMSUNG Euro QA Lab (SEQAL) gain PTCRB accreditation to perform GSM1900 Conformance testing for North America

SEOUL, Korea September 21, 2001 Samsung's European Quality Assurance Laboratory (SEQAL) based in Yateley in the UK has recently gained PTCRB (PCS 1900 Type Certification Review Board) accreditation as a testing laboratory. This means that SEQAL can now carry out GSM 1900 conformance testing for the North American market.

This is an important milestone for Samsung and is an indication of their commitment to Quality and of having a laboratory that is recognized and respected by all parts of the industry. SEQAL already holds UKAS accreditation for performing testing to GSM900\1800 and with this latest accreditation the lab is now able to test GSM handsets for any market in the world.

Accreditation was gained by demonstrating that SEQAL had the relevant equipment, competence and quality systems to carry out GSM1900 testing to the exacting standards required by the North American operators. On the road to this and as a prerequisite to gaining accreditation, SEQAL was also accepted into the PCS Validation Group (PVG). The PVG is a test house group whose role is to provide harmonization of testing for GSM1900 and to assist the PTCRB in development and validation of test procedures.

SEQAL started GSM conformance testing after a £5 million pound investment program. The investment has lead to the purchase of a Rohde & Schwarz TS8916B mobile test platform. The TS8916B can perform GSM900, GSM1800 and GSM1900 RF and protocol testing in accordance with the relevant ETSI specifications. SEQAL are keen to stay at the forefront of the mobile testing market and as a result have invested in the latest test software including those to test the newly developed Phase 2+ applications such as GPRS. Continuous investment will ensure that the SEQAL laboratory will always have the tools to test to the latest standards.
