SAMSUNG Electronics Launches Global VCR

SEOUL, Korea - April, 23, 1998 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has become the first in the industry to develop a VCR (model: SV-4000WD) that can be used throughout the world. It can be set to record and play back any of the world's six broadcast formats or any of five different video tape types. Development of the unique SV-4000WD was required more than one year of research and cost W200 million.

The main broadcast formats used around the world are NTSC, PAL and SECAM. PAL is used in Germany, Brazil, Argentina and China, but detailed specifications differ, so the same broadcast could not be seen in each of these countries until now.

Samsung previously developed a VCR that could record play back and convert different video tape types, and now the company has come out with a VCR that can receive different broadcast formats.

This truly global VCR is expected to be used mainly by exchange students, people immigrating to other countries, and business people on overseas trips.

Broadcast formats -6: NTSC3.58, NTSC4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, SECAM
(PAL is subdivided into B/G, I, D/K, M, N)
Video tape types NTSC, PAL, PAL-M, SECAM, MESECAM

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a US $13 billion flagship company of Korean-based the Samsung Group, is a world leader in electronics, with operations in more than 60 countries.
