Samsung Electronics Ships PC133 SDRAM Samples

Seoul, South Korea - January 29, 1999 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has completed development of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) devices that operate at 133MHz, the next-generation evolutionary standard. Samsung Electronics has also shipped samples of its new SDRAM to PC OEMs in the US and Taiwan.

With PC133, computers will process data 33% faster than the current generation based on PC100 standard. Samsung Electronics plans to establish the leading position in the new PC133 market segment by going into mass production in March.

Samsung Electronics has completed development of 64Mb, 128Mb and 256Mb SDRAMs operating at 133MHz, and sample modules, which are 128MByte Unbuffered Dual Inline Memory Module and 256MByte Registered Dual Inline Memory Module(RDIMM), was delivered to PC OEMs for system-level evaluation. Also, the company plans to have 512MByte and 1-giga Byte RDIMMs based on 256Mb SDRAMs in February.

The PC133 SDRAMs offer a significant performance advantage with a low price. The PC133 devices are forecasted to be used throughout the computer industry, from high-performance servers to low-end PCs. PC133 will provide an incremental performance improvement over PC100 for evolutionary memory applications, whereas revolutionary memory architecture applications will rely on Rambus TM DRAM technology.

With the advent of the PC133 SDRAM, the main memory market is expected to include PC-100 SDRAMs, PC133 SDRAMS, Dual Data Rate (DDR) SDRAMs, and Rambus TM devices.
