SAMSUNG Unveils Olympic Rendezvous @ SAMSUNG in Piazza Solferino

Torino, February 7, 2006 - Three days before the opening of the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Worldwide Olympic Sponsor Samsung unveiled its Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S).  Located in Piazza Solferino, in the historic city center, the pavilion has been designated by TOROC as “The Official Meeting Place of Athletes and their Families” and is the centerpiece of Samsung’s on-site programs for fans and athletes at the Torino Games.

Present at the OR@S Opening Ceremony were: IOC Chairman of the Marketing Commission Gerhard Heiberg, TOROC President Valentino Castellani, Mayor of the City of Torino Sergio Chiamparino, City of Torino board member Elda Tessore, Samsung Vice Chairman and CEO Jong-Yong Yun, and five-time Olympic medalist and Samsung global athlete ambassador Alberto Tomba.

A must-see attraction at the Olympic Games since its first appearance in Sydney in 2000, Samsung’s OR@S welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors in Sydney, Salt Lake City in 2002 and Athens in 2004 combined.

“Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung has been one of the most popular spots for fans and athletes since Sydney,” said Jong Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics.  “We have created a space where people can relax, warm up, and share their passion for sports and the Olympic Games.  We invite our friends from Italy and around the world to stop by and see us in Torino.”

Inspired by the influence of Italian style and the Olympic spirit, gold was chosen as the main color of OR@S to represent top performance and success. Samsung designed Torino’s OR@S with a sloping golden roof to resemble the rolling hills surrounding Torino. This simple and dynamic architectural design was based on the Samsung oval logo.

OR@S consists of two areas:  the Athlete Center, for Olympic competitors and their families, and the Spectator Center, which is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to midnight between Feb. 9th and Feb. 26th

The Athlete Center at OR@S is a home away from home for athletes – a place where they can relax and rest with their families in private, away from the intense pressure of competition.  Athletes also can make free “Share the Experience” long-distance phone calls to friends and family and enjoy refreshments at the Athlete Center Café.

The Spectator Center is an indoor area where fans can enjoy daily entertainment programs, appearances by athletes, like skiing legend Alberto Tomba, sports memorabilia auctions to benefit the Right to Play charity, and technology showcases featuring Samsung products.  Other areas include a history of Samsung contributions to the Olympic Games, and an event and performance stage.

Visitors entering the Spectator Center can experience some never-before-seen wireless models and exhibits dedicated to camera phones, game phones, HSDPA phones and slim design phones. In each area, short films using winter sports images express the main characteristics of these specialized products. And fans can see the official Torino 2006 mobile phone, the SGH-D600, which features Wireless Olympic Works (WOW), the cutting-edge wireless information service that provides Olympic officials with crucial, up-to-the-minute information necessary to run the largest sporting event in the world.

Also in OR@S, for the first time in Europe, is a demonstration of Samsung WiBro (Wireless Broadband) technology, which allows access to Internet service while moving at speeds over 80km per hour.

The daily entertainment program includes:

Giant Phone Game - Fans can play an interactive game by stepping on the keys of oversized mobile phones.
Landballs - Artists will perform a 15-minute show inside giant spheres outside of OR@S once every hour.
Share the Experience calls - Members of the public will be selected at random several times a day to make free calls to friends and family back home.

In addition to daily entertainment and events, OR@S will feature a number of programs throughout the duration of the Games, including the School Learning Zone and the Book of Peace.

The School Learning Zone is a program that welcomes elementary students from local schools to OR@S to learn about the Olympic Games and its values.  Students will participate in an educational program led by a trained instructor, then write essays about what they learned.

The Book of Peace is an album that will feature pictures taken during the Opening Ceremony of Olympic teams from 85 countries.  During the Games, athletes will sign their pictures and, after a final signature added by Alberto Tomba, the Book will be presented as a sign of friendship and goodwill to the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee.

Samsung will award gifts to visitors who mark special attendance milestones in Torino.
