SAMSUNG SDS WiseVIEW Signs Export Contract with Japan

Samsung SDS' WiseVIEW (an English version of UniVIEW) enters the Japanese market. Samsung SDS signed an agreement to export WiseVIEW, an international version of UniVIEW, to Japan on March 3, 2000, following similar agreements in 1999 with Acecom of the USA and CapCAD of France. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Hyunsoo Choi, Director of Samsung SDS' Solution Business Division, and Mr. Takao Hirano, President of Grow Wing System Company of Japan. GWS is a leading Japanese CAD/CAM company with 8 branches in Japan that develops and provides CAD/CAM software for large companies including Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba and Matsushida as well as for small and medium-sized companies across the Japanese market. WiseVIEW is a multiviewer application that allows users to view and print many different types of files without the programs with which such files were created, and meets a wide range of user needs. WiseVIEW supports more than 100 different file types including AutoCAD, CATIA, Hunminjungum, Hangul, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint and Acrobat PDF, being an essential software in implementing systems such as Product Data Management (PDM), Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), Knowledge Management System (KMS) and Electronic Commerce (EC). UniVIEW, a Korean version of WiseVIEW, is used in the implementation of EDMS at the Office of Supply, Water Management Corporation, High Speed Train Corporation, Ministry of Information and Communication, Patent Office and other agencies. UniVIEW is also used in the implementation of PDM systems at Samsung Electronics and its suppliers, Samsung Aerospace, Samsung Electric, Samsung SDI, Korea Aerospace, LG Electronics, KT Freetel and other enterprises. In total, more than 100,000 copies of UniView are currently in use in Korea. Under the export contract, Samsung SDS will export 1,500 copies of WiseVIEW to the Japanese market through GWS. In the past, Samsung SDS has focused on system integration business in the international market, but this contract is expected to expand its presence in Japan's fiercely competitive package software market as well as in the US and Europe.
