SAMSUNG Donates $500,000 to United Nation`s Centre for Human Rights

(SEOUL, Korea) - The Government of the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with the Samsung Group, has made a donation in cash and Kind of US$500,000 to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights/Centre for Human Rights.

The Korean contribution will be used for the computerisation programme. Of the total amount US$400,000 in Kind will be used for personal computers, communication and peripheral equipment. The remaining US$100,000 cash will cover the required training, maintenance and the Programme Support Costs.

The Permanent Representative of Korea, Ambassador Joung Yung Sun and High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jose Ayala-Lasso, formalized the agreement on 2 December at 4:30 p.m. at an official ceremony which took place in the High Commissioner`s office in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Korean donation reflects the country`s commitment to international efforts to promote the cause of universal human rights. It will also contribute to the ongoing process of restructuring the Centre for Human Rights with the aim of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Centre.
