Cdma2000 1X Data Service Debuts at EXPO COMM KOREA 2000

SEOUL, Korea - May 30, 2000 - SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics have jointly completed the world's first commercial cdma2000 1X high-speed data service, which is being demonstrated at EXPO COMM KOREA 2000, which opened in Seoul ON May 25. The cdma2000 1X system can be linked with a video on demand server to provide movies and music videos to wireless handsets. High-speed access is also available to Internet services.

The cdma2000 1X system features a chip set exclusively developed by Samsung Electronics, while the handsets use an MSM-5000 chip set and software created by Qualcomm. Samsung has made it possible to see video streams on the cdma2000 1X handset, while SK Teletech (an SK Telecom subsidiary) has provided the high-speed Web service and video solution using notebook PCs and the SKY handset (produced by SK Teletech).

SK Telecom's new cdma2000 1X service delivers high-speed data to persons on the move and is completely compatible with IS-95A and B systems currently in use in Korea. The cdma2000 1X offers twice the voice traffic capacity provided by the IS-95A and B. The new system also supports data transmission of up to 153Kbps.

SK Telecom has become the world's first to demonstrate wireless data transmission at 153Kbps. Once all commercialization testing is complete, SK Telecom plans to launch full-scale service this coming October.
