Clearing The Air

Project Information

Elko Institute for Academic Achievement’s project aims to solve the mystery of the dirty air in the High Desert region of NE Nevada, where the air is generally crisp and pure. Through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), the students plan to solve the mystery of the dirty air by testing rainwater and snow for wet deposition from the atmosphere, aka “acid rain.” Additionally, they plan to create a video documentary of their investigation beginning with the initial meeting with a local meteorologist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and continue coverage throughout development of the plan. They will tape the precipitation collection methods and the processes for measuring its chemical composition.
