How can I Monitor and Extend Battery Life for my Samsung Galaxy Note® 4?

Your device has an application that lets you see which applications and features use the most battery power. Note: Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

View the Battery Status

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Icon Settings.
    Note: It may be necessary to switch the Settings menu to list view by touching Menu > View as > List view.
  3. Touch Battery Settings Battery Icon.
    Note: If the Battery application is not available in the Settings menu, touch Power saving Settings Battery Icon.
  4. The Battery screen displays the percentage of battery power remaining and how long you might expect that power to last. It also shows the processes that have been using the battery power since it was last charged and the percent used by each.

  5. Touch the graph to see more detail about which processes were running since your device was last fully charged.

Reduce Battery Consumption

Your device provides options that help you conserve battery power. By customizing these options and turning off features in the background, you can use the device longer between charges:

  • Discontinue use of Live wallpapers.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth® feature.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi®.
  • Turn off the GPS service.
  • Turn off the mobile data connection.
  • Turn off auto-syncing of accounts.
  • Turn off the Smart features.
  • Decrease the backlight time (timeout settings).
  • Decrease the brightness of the display, or use automatic brightness.
  • Turn off haptic feedback.

Best Practices for Battery Charging

The following guidelines can help you charge your battery properly and safely:

  • Verify that you are using the Samsung USB/charging cable and wall charger included with your device, and not third-party accessories.
  • Ensure the USB/charging cable is connected securely and is not being blocked by a cover or case.
  • Check whether a battery or charging indicator appears on the device's display when the USB/charging cable is plugged in.
  • Charge using a wall outlet, not a computer, for best results.
  • When the battery is fully charged, disconnect the device from the USB/charging cable.

Power Saving Modes

Power saving modes let you set your device to conserve battery power.* Choose between Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode.

*Battery power consumption depends on factors such as network configuration, wireless service provider, signal strength, operating temperature, features selected, vibrate mode, backlight settings, browser use, frequency of calls and voice, data, and other applications' usage patterns.

Turn On Power Saving Mode

Power saving mode limits performance to conserve battery power. You can choose which features you want to restrict.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Icon Settings.
  3. Touch Power saving Power Saving Mode.
  4. Touch Power saving mode.

  5. Touch the slider Slider Off to turn Power saving mode on Slider On.

The following options are available:

  • Restrict background data: Reduce background data usage to conserve battery power. Some applications will still use the data connection.
  • Restrict performance: Touch the slider Slider Off to turn Restrict performance on Slider On. Mark the checkbox next to each function you want to turn on to restrict performance.
    • CPU performance: Limit the maximum performance of the CPU to conserve battery power.
    • Screen output: Use a lower frame rate and power level for your device's screen.
    • Turn off touch key light: The Recent and Back buttons on the front of your device will not light up when they are touched or when the Home key is pressed.
    • Turn off GPS: Turn off location services and GPS functions on your device.
  • Grayscale mode: Convert color screens to battery-friendly grayscale. Touch the slider Slider Off to turn Grayscale mode on Slider On.

Turn On Ultra Power Saving Mode

Use Ultra power saving mode to switch your device's screen to grayscale and turn off nonessential applications so you get the maximum battery life. With Ultra power saving mode turned on, even if you're down to a 10% charge, you can receive calls and texts for up to 24 hours.*

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Icon Settings.
  3. Touch Power saving Power Saving Mode.
  4. Touch Ultra power saving mode.

  5. Touch the slider Slider Off to turn Ultra power saving mode on Slider On.
  6. Mark the checkbox to agree to the Terms and conditions and touch OK.

  7. Review the changes Ultra power saving mode will make to your device and touch TURN ON or ENABLE.

  8. The Phone, Messages, and Internet applications are automatically available in Ultra power saving mode. Touch Add App to make up to three more applications available.

Turn Off Ultra Power Saving Mode

  1. Touch More options More Options Icon.
  2. Touch Turn off Ultra power saving mode or Disable Ultra power saving mode.
  3. Touch TURN OFF or DISABLE.
