Remove the Glass Shelf Above the Drawers in the Fridge

Open fridge doors to remove the glass shelf

Oops, you just spilled juice all over your fridge. To make cleaning easier, remove the glass shelf above the crisper drawers in your refrigerator. Once removed, you can also detach the glass from the plastic frame if needed.

Always use caution when working with glass. It can break and/or cause injury.

Never clean the glass shelf with warm or hot water, as this could cause the glass to shatter. Wait for the glass to become room temperature and then clean it with lukewarm water.

Use caution with the retainer clips. If they are damaged, the entire shelf will need to be replaced. The clips cannot be replaced individually.

Remove the Glass Shelf

  1. Remove both of the crisper drawers. To remove the drawers, angle them slightly toward the center of the fridge while sliding them out.

  2. Locate the tabs on both sides of the drawer divider and the water filter housing. Press the tabs and separate the shelf from the water filter housing.

  3. Remove the glass shelf by slightly lifting up while pulling it out. It helps to angle one side of the shelf downward while pulling it out of the fridge. Then, carefully turn the shelf over and place it on a clean, flat surface.

  4. To remove the glass from the plastic frame, locate the shelf's retainer clips. The retainer clips are located on the back left and right corners where the glass meets the white plastic.

  5. Locate the tabs that hold the retainer clips in place. The tabs should be located in the corners on the back of the shelves.

  6. One at a time, lift the back corners of the shelf and gently push in on the tab that is holding the clip in place.

Only push in the tab that is closest to the center of the shelf.

  7. Once both clips are removed, gently raise the shelf and then separate the glass from the shelf frame.
