Connect to DLNA Enabled Devices (Nearby Devices) with Your Galaxy Tab 4 7.0

Your device can connect to and share media with DLNA enabled devices, such as TVs and projectors. Your device can also connect to and play media from your device to DLNA enabled devices. The nearby devices (or Nearby devices tab) will not display if no devices are detected. You must be connected to the same Wi-Fi® access point as the device you are attempting to access.

View Media from Nearby Devices

There are several ways to connect to nearby devices and play media stored on those devices from your device. When you open a media application on your device, such as Gallery, Music, or Video, content from nearby devices is displayed in its own tab or folder.

In the example below, we are accessing a DLNA device from the Gallery.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Gallery.

It may be necessary to touch More options > Scan for nearby devices.

  3. Touch a device in the list to browse its content.

  4. Touch media content to view it on your device.

Sharing from Your Device

When you turn on the Nearby devices feature, any device connected to the same Wi-Fi access point may be able to access and view the content you decide to share. This includes public Wi-Fi access points you may use at a coffee shop or a hotel. We recommend that you turn off the Nearby devices feature when it is not in use.

To connect to your device to other DLNA compatible devices, follow the steps below to turn on the Nearby devices feature.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Touch the CONNECTIONS tab.

  4. Touch Nearby devices.

  5. Touch the slider next to Nearby devices to turn it on.

  6. You will receive a request when a nearby device recognizes that you have chosen to share content. Approve access by touching OK, or reject access by touching Cancel.
