Smart Switch for PC/Mac doesn't recognize my device

Before You Begin

If the Smart Switch for PC/Mac application doesn't recognize your device, check the following:

  1. Confirm both your devices meet the requirements to use Smart Switch for PC/Mac.

  2. Check the USB cable connection to make sure it is fully plugged in to your computer and your device.

  3. Try using another USB cable, if possible.

  4. Trying using another USB port on your computer, if possible.

  5. Make sure your device's USB connection is set to Media device (MTP).

  6. Update the USB drivers from Smart Switch.

  7. Restart the application.

Change Your Device USB Connection Setting to Media device (MTP)

To use Smart Switch for PC/Mac, your Galaxy device’s USB connection setting must be Media device (MTP).

To change your USB connection settings:

  1. Connect your Galaxy device to your computer using a USB cable.

  2. From the Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Notification Panel.

  3. Touch Connected as a camera.

  4. Touch Media device (MTP) to change your USB connection setting.

Update USB drivers using Smart Switch for PC/Mac

  1. Disconnect the Galaxy device from the computer.

  2. Turn off your device by pressing the Power button, then turn it back on.

  3. From Smart Switch, select MORE > Reinstall device driver. Click Confirm to start downloading the USB driver.

  4. After the installation is complete, reconnect the device cable.
