How do I set up the Mobile Hotspot or tethering features on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4?

The Mobile Hotspot feature lets you share your mobile device’s data connection with other devices by turning your device into a wireless access point other Wi-Fi® enabled devices can connect to. You can connect multiple devices via Wi-Fi.

Using your mobile device as a wireless access point or wireless modem is data-intensive and will dramatically reduce battery life. We recommend contacting your wireless service provider to ask about availability with your plan. We also recommend keeping your device plugged in while the Mobile Hotspot feature is on.

Turn On the Hotspot

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Touch More networks.

  4. Touch Mobile Hotspot.

  5. If you are connected to a wireless access point, you will be disconnected before you can turn on the hotspot. Touch OK to continue.

The Hotspot icon displays at the top of your screen when the hotspot is turned on.

  6. Touch the slider off next to Mobile Hotspot to turn it on.

Configure the Hotspot

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Touch More networks.

  4. Touch Mobile Hotspot.

  5. Touch More options > Configure Hotspot.

  6. Touch SAVE to continue. The hotspot will turn off and turn back on with the newly configured settings.

  7. Enter or edit the Network SSID, set your Hide my device preference, select the Security type, and enter or edit the Password

Mark the Show advanced options checkbox to configure the Broadcast channel and Maximum connections.

Connect to the Hotspot

To connect to your hotspot from another device:

  1. Turn on the Wi-Fi feature on the device you want to connect to your hotspot.

  2. Search for your hotspot using the information shown on the Hotspot settings screen, and enter the necessary information.

USB Tethering

Your mobile device can be used as a wireless modem to share its mobile data connection with a single computer.

  1. Connect your device to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

  2. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  3. Touch Settings.

  4. Touch More networks.

  5. Touch Tethering.

  6. Mark the checkbox next to USB tethering.

  7. If you are connected to a wireless access point, you will be disconnected before you can turn on tethering. Touch OK to continue.

The USB tethering icon displays at the top of your screen when USB tethering is turned on.
