How to use Smart Voice Interactions on your 2016 UHD TV (UN**KU****)

Access and run certain menu options and functions using voice commands.

Voice Interaction function is only available for the KS9800, KS9500, KS9000, KS8000, KU7500, and KU7000 series models.

•Use the Samsung Smart Remote less than 20 feet from the TV. The usable distance may vary with the wireless environmental conditions.
•The images, buttons, and functions of the Samsung Smart Remote may differ with the model.

Voice Interaction

Speak into the microphone on your Samsung Smart Control to control your TV.

  1. Press the Mic button on your Samsung Smart Control, to access the Voice Interaction tutorial.   

  2. Using the directional button, navigate through the Voice Interaction Tutorial.   

  3. Continue with the Voice Interaction Tutorial.   

  4. Press and hold down the Mic button and say a voice command, and then release the button to run Voice Interaction.   

  5. For this example, say "Youtube" to open the app on your TV using Voice Interaction.   

Setting up Voice Interaction

Turning the TV's verbal response (voice) On/Off

  • Home > Settings > System > Expert Settings > Voice Interaction > Voice Feedback.   

  • Turn Voice Feedback on to have the TV respond verbally to your voice commands. 

  

Selecting the Voice's Gender

  • Home > Settings > System > Expert Settings > Voice Interaction > Voice Gender.   

  • You can select the gender of the voice that responds to your voice commands.

Voice Interaction Concerns

Here are some general questions and answers to allay your fears about the Voice Interaction feature.

  • What does the voice data do and what is it used for?

    The voice recognition feature lets you control the TV using commands such as "Volume up/down." It also lets you search for content so that the TV can make recommendations.

  • Is the TV recording my voice or conversations all the time?

    No, the feature is only active when you enable it. When the feature is active, a microphone will appear on the screen. To deactivate the features, press Exit on the TV remote.

  • Is my voice recorded on the TV? Is it sent and kept elsewhere?

    The TV does not record any sounds. It listens to a command and processes it into data to carry it out.

  • Is my voice provided to a third party? Do they keep the data?

    Voice data is sent to a third party only when the TV is carrying out a search. The voice data is sent to a server which searches for the requested content and then relays the content back to the TV. The data is deleted shortly after.

  • Is my voice data sold to third parties for marketing purposes?

    Your voice data is not sold to any third party. It is used to process requests for content.

  • Does my personal information get sent to a third party?

    Your personal information, such as your name, address, etc. are not sent to a  third party unless you provide the details when you use a command or search for content.

  • Can I turn the voice recognition feature off?

    Yes, you can disable voice recognition in the Settings menu. Please see the above section for more information. 

  • Is the microphone recording when you’re using certain apps?

    Third-party apps are not controlled by Samsung and they have their own set of Terms and Conditions. If you have more questions, we recommend that you refer to the app's Privacy Policy.

  • Does the TV come with voice recognition enabled?

    The voice recognition function is only enabled when you opt into this features during the initial setup of the TV.
