What is Smart Battery Calibration and how do I use it? (NP740U3L & NP740U5L)

When you charge and discharge the battery repeatedly over a short time only, the battery charge indicator can become miscalibrated and indicate a remaining battery charge that is greater than the actual charge. If this happens, you can recalibrate the battery charge indicator by discharging the battery completely using the Battery Calibration function, and then recharging it. If you are experiencing reduced battery life, you may need to calibrate your battery.

• If your laptop does not power on unless it is plugged in, your battery is dead. The information below will not resolve the issue; you will need to replace the battery.

• If the battery is not charging past 97% when powered on, this is normal. This is to prevent overcharging the battery to help prolong the life of the battery.

Using Smart Battery Calibration

  1. Turn off the computer. Then, disconnect the AC power adapter.

  2. Turn the computer back on. Then, to enter the BIOS screen, press the F2 key repeatedly before the Samsung logo appears.

  3. Navigate to Advanced > Smart Battery Calibration.

  4. The Battery Calibration function is active and the battery will begin to discharge. To stop, press the Esc key.

The Battery Calibration function will require 3 - 5 hours depending on the battery capacity and the remaining battery charge.
