What is the Do Not Disturb Feature and How do I Use It on My Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1? (SM-T587P)

Do not disturb mode mutes all alerts on your device, unless you set them as exceptions. You can set Do not disturb mode to turn on or off automatically at scheduled times.

Turning On Do Not Disturb Mode

From Settings

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Sound and vibrations.

        

  2. Touch Do not disturb.

        

        

  3. Touch the slider next to Turn on now to turn it on.

        

        

Using Quick Settings Panel Shortcuts

  1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Notification Panel.

        

        

  2. Touch the View More icon.

        

        

  3. Touch the Do not disturb shortcut to turn on the feature.

        

        

Turning On as Scheduled

If you turn on Do not disturb mode manually, it will not turn off automatically at a previously scheduled time.

Touch KEYPAD to enter the time directly.

To set Do not disturb mode to turn on or off automatically, perform the following:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Sounds and vibrations.

        

  2. Touch Do not disturb.

        

        

  3. Touch the slider next to Turn on as scheduled to turn it on so you can set the dates and times Do not disturb mode will be on or off.

        

        

  4. Touch Days and select the days you want Do not disturb mode to turn on automatically. Touch DONE.

        

        

  5. Touch Start time. Touch the top or bottom of the hour and minute displays and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn on. Touch DONE.

        

        

  6. Touch End time. Touch the top or bottom of the hour and minute displays and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn off. Touch DONE.

        

Setting Up Exceptions

If alarms are not set as an exception, Do not disturb mode will silence all alarms set on your device.

Even when Do not disturb is turned on, you can set desired notifications as exceptions.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Sounds and vibrations.

        

  2. Touch Do not disturb.

        

        

  3. Touch Allow exceptions.

        

        

  4. Touch the exceptions you wish to allow. For this example, touch Alarms only.

        

        

  5. The following options are available in Custom:

        

    • Alarms: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for alarms. This exception will turn on by default when exceptions are turned on.

    • Repeat callers: Allow calls when they are received from the same phone number more than once within 15 minutes.
    • Calls from: Choose whose calls will cause your device to play a notification sound or vibrate. 
    • Messages from: Choose whose messages will cause your device to play a notification sound or vibrate. 

    • Event/task alert: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for Calendar events.
    • Reminders: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for personal remiders.
    • Priority app notifications: Set as priority interruptions to allow app notifications as exceptions.


Turning Off Do Not Disturb Mode

From Settings

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Sounds and vibrations.

        

  2. Touch Do not disturb.

        

        

  3. Touch the slider next to Turn on now to turn Do not disturb mode off.

        

Using the Notification Panel

  1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Notification Panel.

        

        

  2. Touch TURN OFF.

        

        

Using Quick Settings Panel Shortcuts

  1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Notification Panel.

        

        

  2. Touch the view more icon.

        

        

  3. Touch the Do not disturb shortcut to turn off the feature.
