Manage Your Messaging App on Your Galaxy Note5

Learn how to send and receive different messages using the Samsung Messages app on your Note5.

The available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Types of Messages

The Samsung Messages app provides the following message types:

  • Text Messages (SMS)

  • Multimedia Messages (MMS)

The Short Message Service (SMS) lets you send and receive text messages to and from other phones or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s message service.

The Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) lets you send and receive multimedia messages (such as picture, video, and audio messages) to and from other mobile devices or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s multimedia message service.

Messaging icons are displayed at the top of the screen and indicate when messages are received.

Create and Send Messages

  1. Navigate to Apps > Messages.

  2. Touch Compose.

  3. Select the desired recipient(s) from CONTACTS, GROUPS, or RECENTS.

  4. Touch COMPOSE.

  5. Enter a message and then touch SEND.

    If you exit a message before you send it, the message is automatically saved as a draft.

View New Messages

From the Notification Panel

  1. To open the Notification Panel, swipe down from the top of the screen.

  2. Touch the New message notification.

   

From the Messages App

  1. Navigate to Apps > Messages.

  2. Touch the new message to view it.

  3. To play a multimedia message attachment (audio or video), touch Play.

Delete Messages

  1. Navigate to Apps > Messages.

  2. Touch the CONVERSATIONS tab.

  3. Touch and hold the message you want to delete.

  4. Touch DELETE.

  5. To confirm the deletion, touch DELETE.

Messages Settings

  1. Navigate to Apps > Messages.

  2. Touch More Options.

  3. Touch Settings.

  4. Adjust the following to the desired settings.

Emergency Alerts

This device is designed to receive wireless emergency alerts from the Commercial Mobile Alerting System (CMAS), which may also be known as the Personal Localized Alerting Network (PLAN). For more information, contact your wireless provider.

Emergency alerts allows customers to receive geographically-targeted messages. Alert messages notify customers of imminent threats to their safety within their area. There is no charge for receiving an Emergency alert message.

There are three types of Emergency alerts:

  • Alerts issued by the President

  • Alerts involving imminent threats to safety of life (extreme and severe)

  • AMBER alerts (missing child alert)

Users may choose not to receive Imminent alerts (extreme and severe) and AMBER alerts. Follow the steps to disable the imminent alerts and amber alerts.

Alerts issued by the President cannot be disabled.

  1. Navigate to Apps > Messages.

  2. Touch More Options.

  3. Touch Settings.

  4. Touch Emergency alert settings.

  5. Touch Emergency alerts.

  6. Touch the slider to disable the alert option(s).
